About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Business Systems Engineer – Vertex Tax Systems to lead the strategy, architecture, implementation, and optimization of our global tax technology landscape. This role will serve as the technical leader for Vertex and related tax platforms, partnering closely with Tax, Finance, Accounting, IT Engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, compliant, and automated tax solutions that support CoreWeave's rapid global growth.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Vertex (O Series, Returns, Data Integrity, or related products), strong indirect tax domain knowledge, and hands-on experience integrating tax platforms with ERP, billing, procurement, and enterprise applications. This individual will drive the modernization of tax technology while ensuring compliance, operational efficiency, and enterprise scalability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the architecture, implementation, enhancement, and support of Vertex tax solutions across global operations.
  • Design scalable tax technology solutions supporting Sales & Use Tax, VAT, GST, excise tax, withholding tax, and other indirect tax requirements.
  • Partner with Global Tax, Finance, Accounting, Revenue, Procurement, and Engineering teams to define and implement tax system strategies.
  • Design, implement, and maintain integrations between Vertex and enterprise applications including NetSuite, SAP, Workday, Salesforce, Coupa, billing platforms, e-commerce platforms, procurement systems, and data warehouses.
  • Support global tax determination, tax calculation, exemption certificate management, tax reporting, tax returns, and audit requirements.
  • Lead tax technology projects from requirements gathering through architecture, development, testing, deployment, and post-production support.
  • Drive automation of tax processes to improve accuracy, compliance, operational efficiency, and scalability.
  • Ensure tax systems comply with SOX controls, audit requirements, data governance policies, and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to evaluate new tax regulations and implement required system changes.
  • Develop technical designs, integration specifications, and solution documentation.
  • Troubleshoot complex tax calculation, integration, and compliance issues across enterprise applications.
  • Establish best practices for tax technology architecture, integrations, monitoring, and operational support.
  • Serve as the primary technical subject matter expert for Vertex and enterprise tax systems
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of experience implementing and supporting enterprise tax technology solutions.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience with Vertex O Series or other Vertex tax products.
  • Strong understanding of indirect tax processes including:
    • Sales & Use Tax
    • VAT
    • GST
    • Global indirect tax compliance
  • Experience implementing Vertex integrations with one or more ERP platforms such as:
    • NetSuite
    • SAP
    • Oracle
  • Experience integrating Vertex with procurement, billing, e-commerce, and financial applications.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise integration technologies including APIs, middleware, and iPaaS platforms (Workato, Boomi, MuleSoft, or similar).
  • Experience with REST/SOAP APIs, web services, and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Knowledge of tax content updates, jurisdiction management, tax rules, and exemption certificate management.
  • Experience supporting tax audits, SOX controls, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex tax system issues.
  • Proven ability to lead large-scale enterprise initiatives and collaborate across cross-functional global teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Vertex O Series Certification.
  • Experience with Vertex Returns, Data Integrity, Accelerator, or e-Invoicing solutions.
  • Experience with Avalara or other enterprise tax engines.
  • Knowledge of global e-invoicing and Continuous Transaction Controls (CTC) regulations.
  • Experience supporting multinational organizations operating across multiple legal entities and jurisdictions.
  • Familiarity with ASC 606 and financial accounting processes.
  • Experience working in cloud-first, high-growth, publicly traded organizations.
  • Knowledge of AI-enabled automation and modern tax technology innovations

The base salary range for this role is $188,000 to $275,000. The starting salary will be determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location. We strive for both market alignment and internal equity when determining compensation. In addition to base salary, our total rewards package includes a discretionary bonus, equity awards, and a comprehensive benefits program (all based on eligibility).
