What are Non Exempt Purdue Students?

Non Exempt Purdue Students are student employees at Purdue University who are classified as 'non-exempt' under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This means they are eligible for overtime pay when they work more than 40 hours in a workweek. Non exempt status often applies to hourly student workers, as opposed to 'exempt' employees who are typically salaried and not eligible for overtime. These students must track their work hours and are paid at least the federal minimum wage. Understanding this classification helps ensure compliance with labor laws and proper compensation.
