Summary of Position

The Computer Works Technician tests and refurbishes donated computers for resale or recycling. The position prices computers and electronics according to department standards.


Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

  • Assesses the value of donated computers and parts determines next step.
  • Tests, builds and images donated computers.
  • Tests internal components.
  • Tests and wipes hard drives to Reconnect standards.
  • Obtains technical and component information.
  • Packages, prices and stocks components and systems for purchase.
  • Answers technical questions and provides customer support, service and upgrades.
  • Minimizes returns and exchanges of parts and systems through accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Maintains clean and safe work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2-3 years’ experience working in the technology industry
  • Proficient computer knowledge of software and hardware components.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Prior experience with pallet jacks, dock operations and warehousing a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to stand, bend and twist for eight hours.
