The purpose of the position is to oversee and participate in work resulting and contributing to the accurate reading and functioning of water meters and associated features which include registers, radios, and meter cans and lids. This is accomplished by installing, removing, calibrating, repairing and testing water meters; programing and troubleshooting remote metering equipment such as radios and electronic handheld units; turning water services on or off; and investigating meter complaints. Other duties include investigating and resolving customer inquiries and issues.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs lead work by organizing, prioritizing and distributing service orders; reviewing work for completion and accuracy; providing guidance or direction to subordinates; and responding to questions and inquiries.
- Completes fulfilling service orders and meter readings by reviewing tickets; gathering supplies and equipment; reading meters; and working with customers.
- Schedules the replacement and testing of commercial meters by coordinating meter change out times; preparing sites for meter change outs; and enlisting contractor services as needed.
- Maintains parts and supplies inventories by tracking inventory levels; ordering parts and supplies; scheduling vendor deliveries or traveling to vendor sites for pick up.
- Encourages workplace safety by holding safety meetings; coaching on safe work practices; and reporting incidents and violations.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Three years of experience installing, removing, repairing and calibrating water meters, and in programing and troubleshooting AMR (automated meter reading) equipment
Supplemental Information
- Knowledge of principles and practices related to water meter installation, calibration, reading, maintenance, repair, and testing
- Knowledge of standard safety processes, work gear and procedures
- Ability to analyze and organize data, and prepare reports
- Skill in the operation and use of standard office software which includes databases and presentation programs, along with standard Microsoft products
- Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers, the public, and elected and appointed officials
