Job description

THE POSITION County Clerk's Office - Elections Election Workers On Call / Non-Benefited position / No Guarantee of hours Job Summary: This position performs a variety of clerical duties in the County Clerk elections office according to prescribed procedures, rules, and methods. Position assists with elections as needed throughout the year. Hours vary and may involve daytime to evening hours.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: An Elections Worker must be a registered voter of the state of Oregon. By statute, candidate is required to disclose party affiliation prior to hiring. Some roles require the applicant to possess a current driver's license in the applicant's state of residence and have an acceptable driving history in accordance with Douglas County driving policy.

While working in this classification, an individual may be paid a different hourly wage depending upon which function they are performing at any given time. The hourly wage is not cumulative. EXAMPLES OF PRINCIPAL DUTIES: (Duties assigned to this classification include, but are not limited to, the following examples.

Any one position may not perform all listed duties, or may be assigned to only one duty.) Insert ballots, registration correspondence, and/or label envelopes for mailing; Use keyboard or other electronic devices or equipment to process and/or enter required data; Open and/or count ballots; Inspect ballots and/or verify signatures; Run the vote tally equipment; Monitor election observers; Access computerized information; update and retrieve data as directed; Load and transport election ballots from collection boxes; Assemble and/or assist with preparation of election materials, ballots, ballot inserts and/or voter registration correspondence; Pack, load, and distribute ballot drop-site equipment and materials to offsite facilities; Perform assorted office clerical duties such as answering/transferring phone calls, taking messages, assisting visitors at the counter; Other ballot resolution or elections support duties of a similar nature and level as assigned. POSITION REQUIREMENTS SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: This is not an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, duties or functions associated with the job. Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities required, will be considered

However, the following is preferred: In addition to the Special Requirements listed above, graduation from high school or GED equivalent, preferably supplemented by course work in general office skills. Desirable qualifications: Previous working experience in an elections office Required: At time of appointment, must possess valid Oregon drivers license. Regular and consistent attendance Special Requirments listed above Knowledge of - basic knowledge of general office practices and procedures, of English composition, spelling and grammar; basic knowledge of modern office equipment, including computers and their intended use.

Skill in and ability to perform basic typing, filing, calculating math, counting; understand and follow written and oral communications, carry out work assignments with attention to detail and accuracy; work under supervision and with general instructions; to meet and assist clients, staff, and the general public in a courteous manner; understand, convey and safely apply readily recognizable standards and procedures. SCREENING & EVALUATION Position requires a considerable amount of driving. Finalist will be required to provide a court print driving record that meets the Douglas County Driver Policy, as part of contingent offer of employment.

Background Investigation: While not part of initial applicant screening, the finalist for this position may be required to pass a criminal history backgroundas part of a contingent offer of employment.
