Description:
This position requires the nurse to float throughout the designated zone.
The nurse is responsible for obtaining housing within a 60 mile radius of the assigned zone.
Travelers must float within the full radius of the zone, regardless of housing location.
Orientation will take place in the state of employment prior to starting at the assigned facility.
Nurses cannot miss more than three shifts during a 13 week contract.
Any missed shifts may need to be made up at the beginning or end of the assignment.
A two week notice is required to avoid penalties for cancellation.
Candidates will interview with the clinical team, with no involvement from unit management.
Schedules are released 4-6 weeks in advance and may follow one of two formats.
Nurses may be scheduled at a single facility for the week or assigned just-in-time 1-2 hours before shift start.
The emergency department treats a varying number of patients daily, between 40 to 168.
Nurse to patient ratios are based on acuity, typically 1:4-5.
Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, diabetes, NSTEMI, pneumonia, trauma, stroke, and hypertension.
Nurses will assist in various procedures and may be required to perform point of care lab testing.
All nurses must be capable of reading and interpreting telemetry strips.
The emergency department has techs to support unit secretary work and assist nurses with patient care.
Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 for support with various procedures.
Shift requirements include every other weekend and every other holiday.
There are no call or standby requirements for this position.
Dress code for nurses is navy blue scrubs.
Unit orientation will last 2-3 days before the nurse begins working their shifts.
The unit experiences variable trauma levels and has specific capabilities for STEMI and stroke patients.
Additional support in the emergency department includes assistance from charge nurses and house supervisors.
