Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the sorting and distribution of in-coming and out-going mail/packages. Supervision of all student mail clerks.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervision and help in all mail clerk duties.
  • Sort in-coming mail from various outside carriers as well as campus sources.
  • Computer entry of all in-coming parcels
  • Distribute mail to post office boxes in various locations on campus.
  • Distribute parcels while logging them out of computer system.
  • Lookup mail on computer for correct campus address information.
  • Forward mail to addressees who are no longer at this address.
  • Update address and box label information as needed.
  • Assist with counter sales
    • Sell stamps
    • Weigh, price, and ship out-going packages
  • Meter out-going U.S. mail.
  • Package shipments for customers or campus department shipping.
  • Repair Post Office box locks.
  • Managing inventory of office supplies.
  • Problem solving with customer and worker conflicts.
  • Assist managers in selection of new employees.
  • Drive company vehicle.
  • Basic oversight of all mail clerks.
  • Assist carriers in parcel pickups and deliveries.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Undergraduate work preferred, but not required
  • Previous experience in customer service type environment preferred, but not required
  • Previous experience with cash register and money handling preferred, but not required
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role over other workers preferred

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • General customer service skills
  • General computer navigation skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as with fellow employees
  • Ability to work with and help others in a fair and courteous manner with a variety of individuals
  • Attention to detail with numbers and names
  • Good aptitude in the use of numbers and alphabetization
  • Ability to stay focused during routine and repetitive work
  • Self-motivation to stay on task and fully complete tasks
  • Ability to follow instructions carefully
