SUMMARY:

The Horticulture Student Worker will be assigned to tasks, as needed, at the greenhouse and in various landscapes and research projects as determined by the Professor - Horticulture. The student should be willing and able to work outdoors in hot or cold, dusty or wet conditions and enjoy getting his/her hands dirty. The student worker will learn skills related to greenhouse production, landscape maintenance, and landscape installation.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties and responsibilities are listed below:

Complete tasks related to greenhouse plant growth and maintenance, including planting, watering, weeding, and cleaning.

Complete tasks related to landscape maintenance, including mowing, pruning, watering, and cleaning.

Assist with the installation of new plantings, including bed prep, planting, mulching, and watering.

Other duties as assigned

Complete trainings as required by the Texas A&M University System, East Texas A&M University, and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources

Adhere to safety and biohazard guidelines related to chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers, etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Must be a student at East Texas A&M University.

Knowledge / Skills: Punctual. Must be able to lift and carry 80 lbs.

Ability to: Must be willing and able to work outside, which may possibly include extreme heat or cold, and must be willing and able to work in dry, dusty or wet, muddy conditions.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

Horticulture major preferred.

Experience working with power equipment and/or tractors preferred.

Experience working with plants preferred.
