A freight agent with no experience typically works under a more experienced free agent or freight broker. In this position, you get entry-level training related to the industry, such as instruction about transport logistics and how to oversee workers as they load and unload vehicles. Your main responsibilities as a freight agent are to connect people looking for shipment services with drivers willing to haul those goods. As a freight agent, you do not assume the risk associated with the transportation of goods, which is something that the freight broker has to do. Instead, your duties are more closely related to sales, and you helped to connect parties with one another through the broker for whom you work.

A No Experience Freight Agent often starts the day by checking emails, responding to client inquiries, and reviewing shipment schedules. Daily tasks include updating shipment records, coordinating with carriers to arrange pickups or deliveries, and tracking the status of freight to ensure everything runs smoothly. While you may work closely with a supervisor or more experienced team members, you’ll quickly become comfortable handling customer questions and resolving basic issues. This role offers a great introduction to the logistics sector, with opportunities to gradually take on more responsibility as you gain experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the no experience freight agent position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a No Experience Freight Agent, you'll need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn the basics of freight logistics and shipping documentation. Familiarity with common office software, such as email platforms and spreadsheets, is helpful, and many employers provide on-the-job training instead of requiring formal certifications. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills help set candidates apart in this entry-level position. These abilities are crucial for accurately processing shipments, ensuring timely deliveries, and building positive relationships with clients and carriers in a fast-paced industry.
