Job description

CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER**

WASHINGTON COUNTY

Code Enforcement Officer* *

Washington County has a vacancy for aCode Enforcement Officer*. The work involves responsibility for administering and enforcing the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code or a local fire and/or building code if approved by the State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council. Under general supervision, provides for the coordination of all activities relevant to ensuring compliance with the appropriate laws, codes, rules and regulations. A Code Enforcement Officer may supervise a small number of Building Inspectors, Zoning Compliance personnel and/or clerical personnel. Does related work as required.

Currently this is a Civil Service non-competitive position through the HELP Program.* * - No Exam Required

  • *The Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement (HELP) Program temporarily removes the civil service exam requirement for specific titles across State and Local agencies. To be eligible for jobs in the HELP program, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the position and other conditions of employment. More information may be provided if you indicate interest in the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

(a) Possession of a NYS Certification for Code Enforcement Officer; OR

(b) Possession of an Associate’s Degree with specialization in civil engineering construction technology or a related field, from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university, and one year of full-time paid experience in building construction work; OR

(c) Three (3) years of full-time satisfactory experience in building construction work, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or in a building trade such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical related trades.

Experience as a qualified building inspector can be submitted for an equivalent amount of the above required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT : Candidates for appointment in this class will be required to complete mandated training as required by the Department of State.

RATE OF PAY : $25.08/hour plus excellent benefits.
