BASIC FUNCTION:Under the direction of the Supervisor, Transportation Operations, plan, coordinate and schedule District bus routes and schedules; assign bus drivers to designated routes and special event trips; drive a school bus or other transportation vehicle as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and three years of experience driving a bus including one year experience dispatching, planning and scheduling bus routes.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Class A or B California Motor Vehicle Operator's license with passenger transportation, endorsement
, "S", and air brake endorsements.
Valid California Special Driver Certificate for school buses.
Valid California Department of Motor Vehicles medical certificate.
Valid California Highway Patrol approved First Aid Card (if required on Special Certificate).
Valid Medical Examiner's Certificate, Form MCSA-5876

Job ResponsibilitiesREPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Schedule bus drivers and vehicles in order to assure an effective and efficient utilization of drivers and vehicles; set up routes and schedules in accordance with established guidelines; review routes and schedules to accommodate changes; update route sheets for drivers; arrange for substitute drivers as needed.
Plan transportation network utilizing bell times, vehicle capacities, load projections, traffic patterns and geographic considerations; coordinate the development and modification of routes according to variety of meetings and IEP requirements as assigned.
Operate a two-way radio to dispatch drivers and vehicles in accordance with established schedules and to fulfill special transportation requests; communicate with drivers regarding schedule or route changes, vehicle breakdowns, accidents, emergencies, road conditions, road hazards and other concerns; notify drivers or authorities as appropriate; review routes for drivers as needed.
Communicate transportation assignments effectively with parents and administrators.
Communicate with Special Education teachers and staff regarding transportation service levels and options in accordance with District policies and procedures; assign special education routes; input related data into computer.
Serve as liaison between Department and faculty and staff regarding field trip planning as assigned by the position; provide personnel and material estimates; communicate with outside agencies to contract buses as required and in accordance with District policies and procedures; assign field trips to District school bus drivers.
Maintain a variety of logs, records and files related to transportation; maintain driver attendance records; maintain records relating to Individualized Health Plans and distribute to bus monitors in accordance with District policies and procedures; assist bus drivers with the accurate completion of required reports in a timely manner.
Maintain records relating to District vehicle accidents as required; perform accident investigations as assigned.
Operate a variety of office equipment including a copier, fax machine, computer and applicable software applications
Drive a school bus to cover routes and special events as needed.

VACATION - HOLIDAYS - ILLNESSEmployees accumulate twelve (12) days of vacation during the first year of employment, increasing up to twenty-two (22) days beginning the 18th year of service, prorated for part-time, 9, 10, and 11 month assignments. The number of paid holidays per year varies from twelve (12) to fifteen (15) days depending on the work calendar. Employees accumulate twelve (12) days of paid sick leave per year, with unlimited accumulation, prorated for part-time, 9, 10, and 11 month employees.
RETIREMENTAll employees who are in the classified service and work four (4) hours per day or more are members of the Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) and Federal Social Security. If an employee in the classified service works less than four (4) hours per day they are members of an Alternate Retirement System (PARS) and do not contribute to Social Security. Approximately 7% is deducted from your paycheck for PERS retirement.

This includes medical, vision, dental insurance plans and life insurance for employees.
