Job Description:

Analytical Chemist - NMR Spectroscopist

Huntsman is seeking an Analytical Chemist - NMR Spectroscopist supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in HATC, Texas. This position will report to the Sr. Manager Testing Services.

Job Scope

This role provides advanced analytical support to business groups using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The position is responsible for acquiring and interpreting one- and two-dimensional NMR data to deliver reliable and actionable results.

Additionally, the role contributes to broader analytical techniques, including Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) analysis, and utilizes LabWorks Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) tools for data reporting and workflow optimization.

In summary, as the Analytical Chemist - NMR Spectroscopist, you will:
  • Perform and refine one- and two-dimensional solution-state NMR analysis for structure elucidation, quantitative analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct routine maintenance of NMR instruments, including cryogen fills.
  • Perform FTIR qualitative and quantitative analysis to support problem-solving across a variety of sample matrices.
  • Conduct routine maintenance of FTIR instruments, including performance testing and verification.
  • Utilize LabWorks Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and data analysis tools (SQL, Crystal Reports) to support reporting and workflow optimization.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Support other employees in achieving Huntsman company goals.
  • Participate in and complete company-required training programs.
  • Participate in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) initiatives as set forth by the company.
Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's or PhD in Chemistry.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in a related field.
Skills and knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of organic chemistry to support product characterization and problem-solving.
  • Experience with Bruker TopSpin software.
  • Experience with VNMRJ software (Linux platform).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical personnel via electronic communication, phone, and in person.
  • Experience with enterprise LIMS, SQL, and Crystal Reports.
  • Proficiency with Internet, email, and Microsoft Office programs.
Working Environment
  • Laboratory environment focused on advanced analytical testing.
  • Use of specialized instrumentation such as NMR and FTIR equipment.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams and business groups.
  • Requires adherence to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards.
