Job description

Job Summary

The Claims Specialist is responsible for managing the end-to-end freight claims process, including claim filing, investigation, reconciliation, negotiation, and resolution. This role serves as a key liaison between customers, carriers, and internal teams to ensure timely and accurate claim handling while delivering exceptional customer service and minimizing financial exposure.

Please note: Prior freight claims experience is required for consideration. This is also an on-site position located in Chicago Loop.ย 

What You'll Do
  • Review and validate claim documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with carrier requirements.

  • Manage a dedicated portfolio of customer claims, as assigned by the Senior Manager of Claims.

  • Investigate shipment issues and collaborate with carrier partners, customers, and internal stakeholders to determine claim validity.

  • File and manage claims through the EZ Claims platform and maintain accurate, up-to-date claim records.

  • Monitor claim activity and proactively communicate status updates to customers and internal teams.

  • Review carrier claim denials for accuracy, identify discrepancies, and escalate issues when appropriate.

  • Apply knowledge of National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC), carrier tariffs, limits of liability, and transportation regulations when evaluating claims.

  • Negotiate with carriers to secure fair claim settlements and achieve the best possible outcome for customers.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for claims-related inquiries from customers, Sales, Customer Success, and Operations teams.

  • Partner with Finance and Accounting teams to ensure proper claim reconciliation and resolution.

  • Provide claim reporting, trend analysis, and resolution updates to leadership and key stakeholders.

  • Meet or exceed established performance metrics and departmental KPIs.

  • Support claims process improvements and assist in training or mentoring less experienced team members as needed.

  • Maintain a strong understanding of claims accounting processes and related operational workflows.

What You'll Bring
  • Minimum of 2 years of logistics, transportation, or supply chain experience, with direct freight claims experience required.

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, Finance, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Strong understanding of freight claims processes, carrier liability, NMFC classifications, and transportation regulations.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers, carriers, and internal stakeholders at all levels.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize workload, manage multiple claims simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
