Job Overview:

The Patient Access Representative plays a vital role in creating a positive first impression for our patients by delivering compassionate, patient- centered service. This position is responsible for accurately registering patients, verifying insurance, obtaining required documentation, collecting applicable payments and ensuring a seamless registration experience.  The representative serves as the first point of contact for patients and families, providing exceptional customer service during stressful and urgent situations.

As a Patient Access Representative, a typical day might include: 

  • Responsible for coordinating and facilitating registration and admissions by obtaining pertinent demographic information, collecting accurate insurance information authorizations to financially clear outpatient hospital accounts
  • The ideal candidate must be detail oriented and promote patient satisfaction
  • Service orientated background, good written and verbal communication skills and accurate typing ability
  • Demonstrates initiative and motivation in role; proactively identifies and resolves problems in an appropriate manner and escalates issues to leadership when necessary
  • Reflects commitment to building a supportive work environment and maintains a positive attitude
  • Works closely and professionally with nursing and ancillary departments to foster a team environment
  • Participate in training through the development of training tools, presentations at department in-services or staff meetings, or through the training of registration staff outside the patient access department

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Preferred:

  • Medical insurance verification and authorization experience preferred
  • Patient Access experience preferred
  • Knowledge in all aspects of registration, Non-federal and Federal billing regulations, and state programs such as Charity Care preferred
  • Medical terminology and computer skills
