Job description

About the job Remote | CAM Programmer (Fusion 360) - $110-$165/hour
We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for experienced CNC and CAM professionals with advanced Fusion 360 expertise, strong production judgement, and hands-on experience programming multi-axis machining operations.
This role supports the development of a high-quality CNC manufacturing evaluation dataset. Selected professionals will create objective grading rubrics for Fusion 360 CAM programs, assess machining strategies against provided CAD models and production constraints, and determine whether proposed toolpaths would be safe, practical, and suitable for real-world production.
Key Responsibilities
Fusion 360 CAM Programming

  • Evaluate CAM programs developed in Autodesk Fusion 360
  • Assess machining strategies against provided CAD models, stock, machine configurations, and tooling
  • Review toolpath selection, sequencing, parameters, and overall machining approach
  • Identify unsafe, inefficient, or technically inappropriate programming decisions
  • Apply real production experience when determining whether a CAM solution should be approved
4-Axis & 5-Axis Machining
  • Review and evaluate 4-axis and 5-axis CNC toolpaths
  • Assess tool orientation, indexing, simultaneous machining strategies, and machine accessibility
  • Identify potential collisions, clearance issues, or problematic machine movements
  • Evaluate setups for realistic production feasibility
  • Apply multi-axis machining judgement to complex part geometries
CAM Rubric Development
  • Author structured 10-criterion grading rubrics for Fusion 360 CAM programs
  • Create objective, text-based, and independently verifiable evaluation criteria
  • Define standards that distinguish production-ready CAM programs from unsafe or impractical solutions
  • Ensure criteria reflect real machining requirements rather than purely theoretical correctness
  • Maintain consistent evaluation standards across different parts and machining contexts
Toolpath & Process Verification
  • Assess tooling selection, feeds and speeds, workholding, stock considerations, and machining sequence
  • Review roughing, finishing, drilling, contouring, and other relevant machining operations
  • Evaluate collision avoidance, tool reach, machine limits, and setup constraints
  • Identify errors that could affect safety, dimensional accuracy, surface finish, or production reliability
  • Verify that proposed workflows are realistic for the specified equipment and manufacturing environment
Technical Reasoning & Quality Review
  • Write clear verification rationale for every rubric criterion
  • Review sample CAM solutions and explain pass/fail outcomes
  • Identify missing information or assumptions affecting machining feasibility
  • Provide concise technical reasoning grounded in hands-on manufacturing experience
  • Review existing evaluation criteria for clarity, objectivity, and technical accuracy
Ideal Profile
  • 5+ years of professional CAM programming experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with Autodesk Fusion 360 CAM
  • Current access to a Fusion 360 licence
  • Demonstrated ability to program 4-axis and/or 5-axis CNC toolpaths
  • Strong practical understanding of CNC machining, tooling, workholding, setups, and production constraints
  • Ability to determine whether a CAM program would run safely and reliably on a real machine
  • Experience interpreting CAD models and translating them into effective machining strategies
  • Strong understanding of collision avoidance, machine limits, tool accessibility, and process sequencing
  • Excellent written English and ability to explain technical decisions clearly
  • Experience as a CAM instructor, trainer, or technical educator is advantageous
Engagement Details
  • Part-time independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote and open globally
  • Flexible scheduling based on project requirements
  • Compensation: $110-$165/hour
  • All project deliverables are text-based
  • Fusion 360 access is required for the engagement
  • Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded based on project needs and performance
  • Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party
