Job description

[1st Shift] QUALITY CONTROL TECHNICIAN
Company Description
Titan Coatings, the only privately held Coil and Extrusions Coatings Manufacturer in the United States, is your manufacturer of high-quality coatings for the protection of metal surfaces. We create innovative products in our state-of-the-art facility, and we ensure only the highest quality. We are a family owned and operated company that goes back five generations.
Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Quality Control Technician. Qualified candidates will have a high level of integrity and essential attributes to be a vital part of a winning team. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who wants to help Titan Coatings grow to record levels.
As a Quality Control Technician, you will serve as the final quality gate in the manufacturing process โ€” no batch is released to filling and no filled product moves to finished goods without your approval. You will perform testing across Titanโ€™s full product line (ArmorGuardยฎ, UltraBriteยฎ, AlumaBondยฎ, AlumaMaxยฎ, TransGuardยฎ, and PowerFoilยฎ) and ensure every product meets customer specifications, internal standards, and applicable industry requirements before shipment.
The Quality Control Technician reports to our QC Manager / Production Supervisor.
Job Responsibilities
All required tasks associated with a Quality Control Technician:
  • Compliance with all site safety rules, PPE requirements, and SDS procedures for all materials handled.
  • QC Lab housekeeping, organization, and 5S standards maintained every shift.
  • Batch approval and hold/release testing: viscosity, grind fineness, color (visual and spectrophotometer/Delta E), gloss, weight per gallon, and film appearance (drawdown panels).
  • Drawdown panel preparation: substrate selection, coating application, and cure per bake schedule.
  • Spectrophotometer operation, calibration verification, and color standard library maintenance.
  • Clean check evaluation for filling operations; approve or reject samples promptly to support production throughput.
  • In-process quality checks on batches during production (viscosity, grind, color, appearance) as requested.
  • Physical and performance testing: adhesion (ASTM D3359), flexibility (T-bend, mandrel bend, reverse impact), hardness (ASTM D3363), film thickness, gloss, and chemical resistance (MEK rub).
  • Instrument calibration verification at shift start; maintain calibration records for all QC instruments.
  • Accurate, real-time completion of all QC records, batch tickets, and ERP data entry (Datacor).
  • Retain sample collection, labeling, and storage per Titanโ€™s retention schedule.
  • Customer complaint support: retrieve retain samples, prepare comparison panels, document investigation findings.
  • Raw material incoming inspection when required; verify against COAs and incoming material specifications.
  • Waste and sample disposal per Titanโ€™s waste handling procedures and EPA requirements.
  • Quarterly inventory counts and department paperwork as assigned.
  • Notification of equipment failures or out-of-spec conditions to the QC Manager and Production Supervisor.

Job Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in a quality control or laboratory testing role, preferably in paint, coatings, or chemical manufacturing.
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associateโ€™s degree in chemistry, chemical technology, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with color measurement instruments (spectrophotometer), viscosity testing equipment, gloss meters, and film thickness gauges.
  • Ability to prepare drawdown panels and perform standard coatings tests (adhesion, flexibility, hardness, chemical resistance).
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality Regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work precisely and consistently with testing instruments.
  • Strong documentation skills: accurate, legible, real-time completion of quality records.
  • Team-player attitude with excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 30 lbs regularly.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in coil coatings, extrusion coatings, or industrial paint manufacturing QC.
  • Familiarity with NCCA, AAMA, and DASMA testing standards.
  • Experience with metallic and textured coating evaluation.
  • Experience supporting customer complaint investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with Datacor or similar coatings industry ERP systems.
