Job Description

The 3rd Machine Operator I works in the saw department, operating bandsaws and related equipment to process metal parts and rods according to production specifications. This role focuses on loading materials, performing manual outside operations, inspecting dimensions, and documenting measurements while following lean manufacturing principles in a high-volume production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate saws and bandsaws safely and efficiently to cut parts and rods according to specified dimensions.
  • Load parts and rods onto machines, ensuring correct placement and secure setup prior to operation.
  • Perform outside operations and manual tasks associated with the saw processes as required by production needs.
  • Conduct dimensional inspections using calipers and other measuring tools to verify that parts meet quality standards.
  • Read and interpret simple manufacturing drawings and blueprints to understand part requirements and cutting specifications.
  • Accurately document measurements, dimensions, and inspection results on departmental paperwork and production records.
  • Apply lean manufacturing and lean Six Sigma principles to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Follow written instructions, standard operating procedures, and safety guidelines at all times.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area around the saw equipment and related workstations.
  • Work in a repetitive production setting, including standing for extended periods and performing consistent tasks throughout the shift.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to learn the process and resolve basic production or quality issues.
  • Support regular overtime needs by working close to 50 hours per week when required.

Essential Skills

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably with machine operation and saw operation.
  • Ability to operate bandsaws and related machinery in a production setting.
  • At least 1 year of experience using calipers to perform dimensional inspections.
  • At least 1 year of experience reading simple manufacturing drawings and blueprints.
  • Ability to read and write at a high school level or equivalent to follow written instructions and complete paperwork.
  • Basic math skills for measuring, calculating dimensions, and recording data accurately.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Familiarity with lean Six Sigma concepts.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining focus on safety and quality.
  • Capability to stand for up to 8 hours during a shift in a production environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.75 - $23.75/hr.
