Job description

Night Receptionist

At The Salvation Army, we are dedicated to "Doing the Most Good". We are made up of thousands of officers, soldiers, staff, volunteers, donors, and partners working together to holistically meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our most vulnerable neighbors. We do this through programs designed to combat homelessness and hunger, provide safe spaces for kids after school and on the weekends, achieve and maintain sobriety, and give hope to the hopeless. The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division provides these services to people in need.

Clients attending evening treatment activities are received and directed to groups and individual counseling. Assist in filing, cleaning, and up-keep of the Outpatient Clinic. Support the full mission of The Salvation Army through assuming general receptionist responsibility and cleaning responsibility in the evening.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

  1. General receptionist responsibility is assumed for the Outpatient Clinic between 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (working hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.). Therapists are informed when their patients arrive for scheduled appointments. Waiting room order is maintained ensuring that patients with appointments are admitted if the entrance door is locked.
  2. Responsibility is assumed for general office communication and the relaying of telephone and other messages to specific staff members.
  3. Records are filed, pulled and maintained, groups are listed and rooms set up for group meetings.
  4. General data entry of client and billing information into excel spreadsheet for reporting purposes.
  5. Provide additional receptionist coverage at the Harbor Light Residential desk as needed.
  6. All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

  • Education : High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience : At least one year receptionist or social service experience preferred.

Position Limitations:

  • This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will keep the Office Coordinator informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
  • This individual will adhere to all Army policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • This position is required to do light physical work.
  • To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment and a PC.
  • Must be able to walk up two flights of stairs and lift up to 25lbs.
  • The work environment for this position includes an office environment with a low noise level.
  • Must be able to work with clients that have poor social skills, suffer from mental illness, and have substance abuse problems.

Competencies:

  • This position can be filled by a Harbor Light Program recovering resident who has the ability to handle people with courtesy and patience.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work as a team member and well with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
  • At least one year of sobriety required.
  • Supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army.

Reporting Relationships:

  • This position reports to the Billing/Office Manager.
  • In contacts related to this position's duties, this individual acts as a representative of the Army and its mission.

Performance Measures:

  • This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.
