How much do night receiver jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 10, 2026, the average hourly pay for night receiver in the United States is $18.21, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.38 and $19.47 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by Night Receivers and how can they be managed effectively?

Night Receivers often work independently or with a small team during off-peak hours, which can present challenges such as managing large shipments without immediate supervisory support and maintaining accuracy while working at a fast pace. To manage these effectively, it's important to develop strong organizational skills, stay attentive to detail, and communicate clearly with other shifts through detailed documentation. Adapting to the physical demands and managing fatigue are also key, so practicing good self-care and following safety protocols are essential for long-term success in this role.

What are Night Receivers?

Night Receivers are employees responsible for receiving, unloading, and organizing shipments that arrive at a store or warehouse during nighttime hours. Their duties often include checking inventory for accuracy, restocking shelves, and ensuring that products are properly stored. Night Receivers help prepare the store for the next business day by making sure all incoming goods are accounted for and ready for sale. The role typically requires attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and sometimes the ability to operate equipment like forklifts or pallet jacks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Night Receiver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Night Receiver, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and physical stamina, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with inventory management systems, handheld scanners, and pallet jacks is typically required. Dependability, time management, and effective communication are important soft skills for this role. These skills ensure accurate inventory processing, efficient workflow, and smooth handoffs between shifts in a fast-paced warehouse or retail environment.

What is the difference between Night Receiver vs Warehouse Associate?

The main difference between a Night Receiver and a Warehouse Associate is that the Night Receiver specializes in receiving and inspecting shipments during overnight shifts, focusing on inventory accuracy and safety. In contrast, a Warehouse Associate performs a broader range of warehouse tasks, often during daytime hours. Both roles are essential in logistics and retail industries, but Night Receivers typically work overnight to ensure shipments are processed efficiently for the next business day.
