Position Summary...What you'll do...This position is a developmental leadership role designed to prepare associates for potential Store Manager opportunities within the Walmart US
store operations environment. The Emerging Store Manager (ESM) will train and develop across many areas of store operations, including
merchandising, people leadership, financial management, customer experience, and community engagement.
The ESM role does not carry any guaranteed timeframe; however, the developmental assignment is expected to last no longer than 12 to 18 months.
Associates in this role are expected to maintain mobility within their assigned region for Store Manager application and potential placement. An
individual in this position will be expected to perform additional job-related responsibilities and duties throughout the store as assigned and/or as
necessary.
Trains and develops within a store environment in the areas of retail operational acumen, people leadership, merchandising strategy, financial
management, customer experience, and community engagement in preparation for a Store Manager role.
Assists in managing the store's financial performance by learning to authorize and manage expenditures against budget. Monitors sales and profit
goals. Analyzes economic trends and community needs for budget forecasting. Generates, reviews, and acts on business reports and profit-and-loss
statements.
Supports sales in the store by ensuring effective merchandise presentation, including accurate and competitive pricing, proper signing, and
appropriate in-stock and inventory levels. Assesses economic trends and community needs.
Models, enforces, and provides direction and guidance to hourly associates and managers on proper customer service approaches and techniques to
ensure customer needs, complaints, and issues are successfully resolved within company guidelines and standards.
Analyzes and assists with projected staffing plans to ensure they are accurately forecast to meet business goals for workload and performance
results. Supports the timely implementation of staffing plans, talent pipelines, and succession planning processes.
Initiates, directs, and participates in community outreach programs as a community liaison. Encourages and supports associates and managers in
serving as good members of the community. Establishes and maintains relationships with key individuals or groups as the representative for the
company. Promotes company-sponsored programs, events, and sustainability efforts.
Upholds the Open Door Policy by meeting with associates and listening to concerns, researching issues, reviewing company policies and procedures,
and providing resolutions according to company policies and procedures. Proactively seeks out associate comments and concerns by meeting with
associates in their work areas.
Assists in leading and directing the store's management team by supporting the establishment and implementation of store objectives. Communicates
goals. Monitors performance and provides feedback. Identifies training and development needs.
Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures by holding hourly associates and managers accountable. Analyzes and interprets reports.
Implements and monitors asset protection and safety controls. Maintains quality assurance standards. Oversees safety and operational reviews.
Develops and implements action plans to correct deficiencies.
Supports the execution of multiple business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs. Develops and communicates business
plans and priorities. Removes barriers and obstacles that impact performance. Measures progress and adjusts performance accordingly.
Demonstrates adaptability and supports continuous learning.
Effectively facilitates strong partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders across the organization (including Market Managers, Regional
leadership, Merchandising, Human Resources, and Asset Protection). Develops, implements, and sustains key organizational objectives.
While the ESM assignment does not carry any guaranteed timeframe, ability and willingness to complete the ESM program in no longer than 12 to
18 months.
The Emerging Store Manager (ESM) role is a developmental assignment with an expectation to progress into a Store Manager position within 12-18
months.
If a Store Manager role is not secured within that timeframe, next steps will be based on performance and business need, which may include
placement into another role at a different level.
Ability and willingness to maintain mobility within an assigned region for Store Manager application and potential placement.
Successful completion of evaluation against defined developmental milestones and competency assessments throughout the assignment.
Drives the execution of multiple business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs; developing and communicating business
plans and priorities; removing barriers and obstacles that impact performance; providing resources; identifying performance standards; measuring
progress and adjusting performance accordingly; developing contingency plans; and demonstrating adaptability and supporting continuous learning.
Promotes and supports company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by training and providing direction to
others in their use and application; ensuring compliance with them; and utilizing and supporting the Open Door Policy.
Ensures business needs are being met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current plans, programs, and initiatives; consulting with business
partners, managers, co-workers, or other key stakeholders; soliciting, evaluating, and applying suggestions for improving efficiency and cost
effectiveness; and participating in and supporting community outreach events.
Provides supervision and development opportunities for associates by selecting and training; mentoring; assigning duties; building a team-based work
environment; establishing performance expectations and conducting regular performance evaluations; providing recognition and rewards; coaching
for success and improvement; and promoting a belonging mindset in the workplace.

The annual salary range for this position is $65,000.00 - $110,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
- Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location)
- Complex Structure (based on external factors that create challenges)

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in management, business administration, retail management, financial management and 2 years' experience in a management role within a retail, operations, or distribution environment, with responsibility for supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing managers/supervisors, managing workloads, and participating in the hiring and promotion of employees. Option 2: 4 years' experience in a management role within a retail, operations, or distribution environment, with responsibility for supervising, evaluating, mentoring, and developing managers/supervisors, managing workloads, and participating in the hiring and promotion of employees.
2 years' general management experience, including responsibility for financial accountability.
For facilities that sell firearms, successful completion of a firearms-specific Criminal Background Check (CBC) and Firearms Authorized Training.
For facilities that sell only ammunition and have state-specific requirements, successful completion of a current state-issued Certificate of Eligibility.Preferred Qualifications...
