Job description

Job Responsibilities The mission of the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) is to serve students, support teachers, empower parents, and engage the community so that every student graduates prepared to reach their full potential. Job Purpose: Under general supervision, this positions serves as the charter schools program lead and acts as a resource to charter developing groups, existing charter schools, parents, charter school board members, charter sponsors, legislators, and other charter stakeholders. Responsibilities: To Facilitate technical assistance and high quality program development services to charter school developer groups, existing charter school faculty and staff, charter sponsors, and charter school board members.

Facilitate and participate in the planning and development of policies and practices to implement the SC Charter Schools Act and SBE Regulations through the coordination of appropriate agency offices, state education officials, education partners, and community stakeholders. Assist the Planning and Implementation Grant Manager to compile and analyze data relative to the status, process, and progress of charter schools receiving P&I funding. Research and disseminate charter best practice information to charter stakeholders.

Represent the SCDE as a resource at local, state, and national associations and attend planning meetings, conferences, and trainings pertaining to charter schools. Represent the SCDE before hearings and meetings with the SBE and General Assembly with regards to providing research, data, and technical reports concerning SC charter schools, laws, and statistics from SC, other states and the USED. Maintain and update yearly all state required charter documents and processes to include but not limited to: Charter School Application Template, Charter School Contract Template, Charter School Annual Report, Charter School Board Trainings, Charter School Profiles, and SC Charter School Accreditation templates and process.

Collect and review charter school reports in a timely manner, manage all aspects of charter school data collection, maintain current directory of charter schools, compile clearing house of charter best practices, create templates for charter school surveys and manage results. Visit charter schools to identify innovations and best practices that improve student learning and close achievement gaps in order to disseminate to other schools. Other job duties as assigned This position is located in the Office of Education Choice and Family Engagement.

Minimum and Additional Requirements A bachelor's degree and experience in education, management or business. Preferred Qualifications A master's degree and five (5) years of experience in education, management, and/or business; or a bachelor's degree and six (6) years of experience in education, management, and/or business. Experience in the development and implementation of charter schools and knowledge of South Carolina charter school laws and regulations preferred.
