Job description

WORK OBJECTIVE
Support airfield operations by performing a variety of outdoor maintenance, landscaping, and equipment-operation tasks under the direction of Airfield leadership.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Operate a wide range of airfield equipment, including sweepers, trucks, snow equipment, graders, backhoes, and loaders.
  • Perform grounds and landscaping maintenance using mowers, trimmers, and hand tools.
  • Trim trees and brush using mechanical equipment; includes bending, climbing ladders, and cleanup of debris.
  • Repair eroded or seeded areas; conduct pre-operation checks on all vehicles and equipment.
  • Communicate via portable radios with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Perform manual labor such as shoveling sand/gravel/asphalt and using hand, power, and pneumatic tools.
  • Lift materials (fertilizer, fencing, trash containers, etc.) up to 50 lbs. for extended periods.
  • Repair road, runway, and airfield surface defects using specialized equipment.
  • Maintain parking lots and public streets; pick up and dispose of trash.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to learn FAA and NFTA regulations related to airport operations.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to work outdoors in all weather.
  • Must be able to work overtime and respond to call-ins.
  • Must be in good physical condition.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid NYS Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement is PREFERRED, a CDL A or B Permit with air brake endorsement and a satisfactory driving record are REQUIRED.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SIDA badge and US Customs & Border Protection Seal.
  • The winter season involves considerable overtime so if you're into making money this is for you.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Standing: ~30% | Sitting: ~50% | Bending/stooping/crouching: ~10%.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs regularly; occasional lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Vision: Minimum 20/40 in each eye (with or without corrective lenses).
  • Hearing: Must meet Airfield Personnel Vehicle Operation standards (no more than 25 dB loss at 500/1000/2000 Hz).


ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and tolerate heat, cold, dust, fumes, smoke, and high noise levels.
