Life Safety Systems Engineer

Tampa, FL 33609

Overview

We are seeking a Life Safety Systems Engineer to design and support life safety, fire alarm, and fire protection systems for complex mission-critical facilities, including data centers. This position is available nationwide, with preference given to candidates located near a U.S. office.

This role offers the opportunity to lead projects from concept through construction, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, and code officials to deliver safe, reliable, and code-compliant designs.

Responsibilities

  • Design fire alarm, fire detection, life safety, and low-voltage systems for mission-critical facilities
  • Develop system layouts, calculations, specifications, and construction documents
  • Lead projects from preliminary assessments through final design
  • Coordinate with engineers, BIM designers, vendors, and clients
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building, fire, and electrical codes
  • Prepare equipment schedules, network diagrams, and construction documentation
  • Support smoke control, fire suppression, gas detection, and explosion prevention designs
  • Resolve technical issues throughout the design process
  • Interface with state and local code officials during project development
  • Manage multiple projects while meeting schedules and project deadlines
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance when needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Experience designing fire alarm and life safety systems
  • Knowledge of VESDA and other fire alarm manufacturer equipment
  • Working knowledge of:
    • NFPA 72
    • NFPA 101
    • NFPA 70 (NEC)
    • International Building Code (IBC)
    • International Fire Code (IFC)
  • Understanding of construction documents and engineering specifications
  • Experience leading engineering projects and coordinating resources
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 4+ years of Autodesk Revit experience
  • Experience designing systems for data centers or other mission-critical facilities
  • Knowledge of:
    • NFPA 13
    • NFPA 75
    • NFPA 76
    • NFPA 2001
  • Experience with project estimating and scheduling
  • Previous mentoring or technical leadership experience
