Job description

TheDigital Produceris part of a team that produces and promotes news content on WREG.com, the digital platform for News Channel 3 in Memphis, and on the social media accounts for the website and television station.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Writes news stories and headlines for the web and other digital platforms; edits and posts video clips
  • Aggressively breaks news on digital platforms before competing news outlets
  • Edits and repurposes television scripts and video for grammar, accuracy, tone and AP style
  • Promotes content Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and other social media platforms
  • Monitors data on page views and video views, promoting content appropriately to maximize reach
  • Monitors email, social media and other media sources for story leads and ideas.
  • Works with television reporters and producers to make sure information is reaching all platforms as quickly as possible
  • Keeps content updated on website home page and social media platforms
  • Use our social media and website to build and reinforce brand recognition and drive viewers to television
  • Determines a story's emphasis, length, and format, and organizes material accordingly
  • Research andanalyzebackgroundinformation related to news stories in order to be able to provide complete and accurate information
  • Checks reference materials such as books, news files or public records to obtain relevant facts
  • Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
  • Builds and calendars digital campaigns to promote local shows and specials.
  • Adapts quickly to changing technology and new platforms
  • Finds new ways to use social media and our websiteto engage with viewers

Requirements & Skills:

  • Degree in journalism, experience in television or daily newspaper or online news site experience required; working web samples and/or print pages preferred
  • Proficiency in using Wordpress is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Associated Press style, SEO is required.
  • Maintain positive work environment through active team participation and cooperation with co-workers in all departments
  • Responds positively to feedback

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The Digital Producer must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, or alone. Must be open to work shifts on morning, nights or weekends as needed.
