Youth Services Specialist

Inspiritus

Summary
Inspiritus is looking for a dynamic, engaged individual to implement a new program launch expanding our proven afterschool enrichment model to two new Dekalb County high schools. Responsibilities include relationship building with local school faculty and administrators, identifying and recruiting students in the target population, and coordinating/implementing the logistics of afterschool programming for newcomer/English language learning high school students at two Dekalb County School sites. The Youth Services Specialist will work in collaboration with the Youth Services Coordinator, Youth Program Manager, and the Assistant Director of Youth & Immigrant Services at Inspiritus to develop high-quality programming that addresses the educational and social-emotional needs of newcomer and English language learner students while also supporting their families to feel empowered to participate in and advocate for their students' education.

This is an exciting new initiative and requires an independent self-starter who's not afraid of a challenge to be successful!

Position Details:

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Classification: Non-Exempt
  • Reports to: Youth Services Coordinator
  • Location: Dekalb County, GA
  • Travel: Up to 25%
  • Salary range: $40,000 - $45,000

Responsibilities:

  • Forging relationships with school administration at two new sites with no previous Inspiritus programming
  • Recruiting and enrolling students from the target demographic to participate in twice-weekly afterschool programming at both sites
  • Working with school district and school staff to secure space, transportation, and other logistical support to launch operations by January 2027
  • Engaging with the newcomer/English language learner community across both school sites to assess the needs of the students and their families
  • Providing ongoing school liaison services and wraparound supports to students and their families, including support with school enrollment and orientation to the US education system
  • Offer training and technical assistance to schools and other community stakeholders on best practices for meeting the educational and social-emotional needs of newcomer/English language learner students
  • Executing afterschool and summer camp enrichment programming that includes evidence-based literacy and numeracy, trauma-informed care, social-emotional learning, and post-secondary education and career readiness for high school youth
  • Participate in Inspiritus' trainings, community engagement events, and other collaborative efforts in Inspiritus' Refugee and Immigrant Services department
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience

  1. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent in education or human services-related field and minimum of two years of previous direct work experience in youth and/or human services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  3. Experience working in a culturally diverse environment and high level of cultural humility
  4. Excellent computer skills, accurate typing, and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  5. Must be sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  6. Must own a personal multi-passenger vehicle, hold a valid Georgia Driver’s license, have a good driving record, and have appropriate personal auto insurance

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Experience coordinating diverse teams of volunteers and/or interns.
  2. Familiarity with Dekalb County schools, social services programs, public transportation, employers, and neighborhoods
  3. Experience with human services programs.
  4. Reads, writes, and speaks a relevant foreign language.

Physical Demands:

Regularly required to talk and hear. Required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools and controls: and reach with hands and arms. Required to operate personal vehicle.

Employees frequently lift and or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
