New Horizons Healthcare is a federally qualified health center (FQHC) in Roanoke, Virginia that provides comprehensive primary care, behavioral health, dental care, and pharmacy services for almost 10,000 patients annually. We are a not-for-profit community clinic with a mission to improve access to affordable, high quality, culturally competent, comprehensive primary health care. We offer a sliding fee discount program for those who are uninsured or underinsured. Position Summary:
New Horizons Healthcare is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Bilingual Patient Access Representative to serve as the first point of contact for our patients. This role is essential to ensuring a positive patient experience by providing excellent customer service, accurate registration, insurance verification, and appointment scheduling. As part of our front desk team, you will support access to high-quality, affordable healthcare for all members of our community.
The ideal candidate is friendly, organized, and committed to supporting our mission of providing equitable healthcare, regardless of a patient’s background or ability to pay.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Greet patients in person or by phone with professionalism and empathy
  • Schedule, confirm, and check in appointments
  • Verify insurance eligibility and update patient demographics accurately
  • Collect co-pays, balances, and documentation for sliding fee scale applications
  • Educate patients on available services, financial assistance programs, and required documentation
  • Ensure proper completion of consent forms and compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Respond promptly to patient inquiries and assist with resolving concerns or questions
  • Maintain orderliness of front desk and waiting areas
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to support efficient patient flow
  • Use electronic health record (EHR) system and scheduling tools with accuracy
Qualifications:
Education amp; Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • One year of experience in a healthcare setting, customer service, or front desk role preferred
  • Experience working with diverse populations or in a community health/FQHC environment is a plus
Skills amp; Competencies:
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm in a fast-paced setting
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with computers and basic office software; experience with EHR systems preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus
Working Conditions:
  • Full-time position, Monday–Friday
  • On-site work required at New Horizons Healthcare facilities
  • Occasional extended hours based on clinic needs
