Grow Your Skills, Grow Your Potential Responsibilities

As a Software Engineer on the Temporal Platform team, you will help build, operate, and evolve State Farm's enterprise workflow orchestration platform using Temporal Cloud. You will develop reusable platform capabilities, SDKs, automation, and integrations that enable product teams to build resilient, scalable, and observable business workflows while following enterprise security and engineering standards.

This role combines software engineering, platform engineering, cloud technologies, and DevOps practices to improve developer experience and accelerate delivery across the enterprise.

What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, and maintain reusable platform services and capabilities built on Temporal Cloud.
  • Develop SDKs, libraries, templates, and reference implementations that simplify adoption of the Temporal platform.
  • Partner with application teams to design reliable, long-running workflows and integrate existing applications with Temporal.
  • Build automation that improves developer productivity, platform reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Design and implement observability solutions, including metrics, logging, alerting, and distributed tracing.
  • Help establish enterprise standards, best practices, and governance for workflow development.
  • Collaborate with cloud engineering, security, architecture, and product teams to deliver secure, scalable platform capabilities.
  • Investigate production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term improvements.
  • Contribute to platform roadmaps, technical documentation, and developer education.
Qualifications Required Qualifications
  • Experience developing software using one of the following: Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, or another modern programming language.
  • Understanding of object-oriented design, distributed systems, and API development.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Familiarity with REST APIs, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous processing.
  • Experience using Git and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Temporal, Camunda, AWS Step Functions, Azure Durable Functions, or other workflow orchestration technologies.
  • Experience building or supporting platform engineering or internal developer platforms.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and containerized applications.
  • Experience with observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or Splunk.
  • Familiarity with messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Amazon SQS.
  • Understanding of resiliency patterns including retries, circuit breakers, idempotency, and eventual consistency.
  • Experience implementing secure software development practices.

  • Potential starting salary range: $110,000 - $140,000
    • Starting salary will be based on skills, background, and experience
    • High end of the range limited to applicants with significant relevant experience
