Job description

As our Neurosurgery team continues to grow, we are expanding our front office team to support increased patient volume and enhance the overall patient experience. We are seeking an experienced, dependable and patient-focused Front Desk Receptionist to serve as the first point of contact for our patients. Candidates must have prior medical Front Desk experience with knowledge of insurance verification.

Job Description

  • Welcomes patients and visitors to the medical office by greeting patients and visitors in person and on the telephone and answering inquiries or referring questions to other staff members.
  • Review patient charts prior to scheduled appointments to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Confirm all required forms are current, including patient registration and health history.
  • Ensure all necessary test results and supporting documents for upcoming visits are scanned and uploaded into the patient’s chart.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting front desk and reception area.
  • Assist patients with insurance papers and billing questions.
  • Review and verify insurance information for all upcoming appointments.
  • Identify and resolve any eligibility concerns prior to the patient’s visit.
  • Update insurance details in the system and communicate discrepancies to the patient or billing department as needed.
  • Collect copays and patient balances at the time of service and provide receipts as needed. Communicates clearly with patients regarding amounts due.
  • Follow office procedures for handling and reconciling payments.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 2 years of experience at a healthcare facility in a medical receptionist role preferred.
  • Must be able to travel between the following locations: Merrillville, Highland, Hobart and Crown Point
  • Experience in Electronic Medical Records (EHR) software, MS Word and MS Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and planning skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and react effectively to emergency situations.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to multi-task.
  • Passionate about healthcare excellence.

Monday to Friday no weekends.
