The department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine in the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking an Assistant Research Scientist. Reporting to the Director of the Brain Organoid Core, the faculty member will manage the development and operation of the Brain Organoid Core and its research programs. The individual will support core-led projects and provide technical expertise and consultation to investigators. Major responsibilities include the culture, maintenance, characterization, and differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs); CRISPR/Cas9-based genome editing; generation and validation of novel iPSC lines; and the development, optimization, and implementation of protocols for producing and analyzing diverse brain organoid models. The position will oversee user projects, coordinate core services, maintain quality control standards, and ensure timely completion of research requests. The individual will also be responsible for training users in core technologies; maintaining detailed records and standard operating procedures; managing core equipment and laboratory resources; assisting with experimental design and data interpretation; and contributing to reports, publications and presentations related to core-supported research. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.
Responsibilities
- Assisting in grant writing and submission/Scientific manuscripts writing and submission
- Planning, designing, and performing research projects and analyzing the data from these research projects
- Mentoring and supervising postdoctoral fellows, research associate, and graduate students
- Performing administrative and managerial tasks in the laboratory
- Attend lab meetings and discussions of results from research projects
- Stay current with advances in stem cell biology, organoid technologies, genome engineering, and neuroscience research and to help implement emerging methodologies that enhance the capabilities of the Brain Organoid Core
Required Qualifications
PhD or equivalent from an accredited institution.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 304 students per class.
