Job description

Summary of Job The City of Beloit is seeking a Network Administrator for the Information Technology Department to oversee the administration, support, and enhancement of the municipal network infrastructure. This position ensures enterprise systems and related components remain secure and highly available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Responsibilities include the full lifecycle of hardware management, from receiving and racking components to performing professional installation, wiring, and continuous traffic monitoring.

Beyond physical maintenance, the role involves managing the digital integrity of the network through the timely application of security patches, firmware updates, and software releases. Strategic duties include conducting performance and capacity planning to provide informed recommendations for future infrastructure expansion. This position is vital to maintaining a resilient, scalable, and secure technological environment that meets the evolving operational needs of the City.

Other duties may be assigned. Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Possession of a current driver's license and satisfactory driving record or otherwise be able to meet the transportation requirements of the position. Associate's Degree from an accredited College/University with major course work in computer science or related field.

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College/University with major course work in computer science or related field preferred. Five years of experience working in a professional IT environment. Two years of experience working with the configuration and maintenance of Cisco network products in a professional IT environment.

Expert working familiarity with Cisco IOS with hands-on experience configuring Cisco routers, switches, firewalls. Strong proficiency with the following: Routers and routing protocols Switching and layer 2 technologies Controller based wireless networks VoIP systems - Cisco CUCM/Unity Network security with firewalls and ACLs IPsec VPNs Network monitoring (SNMP, NetFlow) Mobile operating systems (Android, iOS) Cabling standards (Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optics) Documentation tools (Microsoft Visio) Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification or equivalent certification relevant to the position is preferred. Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered.
