Job Summary:
The Principal Solution Architect leads a virtual team of product engineers, design engineers, system engineers and FAEs to develop best in class solutions for a global enterprise customer base. The solutions include integrated systems that scale into large scale AI/HPC clusters, Scale-out Storage clusters, Public Cloud Infrastructures, etc. The role provides support to large and complex projects for global enterprises, customers and cloud service providers.
This role will be based on our headquarters located in the San Jose, CA.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Principal Solution Architect is responsible for providing key knowledge and technical knowhow in developing AI data center solutions that help SMC improve sales revenue and profit margin. The role is responsible for advancing and maintaining SMC's leadership in the industry.
1. Pre-sales support for solution engineering
  • Plays a leadership role in pre-sales activities that service high-profile AI customers, provide guidance, insight for application analysis, architectural design, proof of concept testing, solution validation and optimization. Work with sales to meet customers and provide leadership in pre-sales technical support and solution consulting. The job duty also includes working with other product groups and leading the effort to design the best solution and proposal for customer RFPs/RFQs.

2. Leadership role in solution development
  • Plays a leadership role in research and development of AI data center solutions that help SMC grow revenue and win market share. Combines the best hardware, software, networking technologies to create end-to-end solutions.
  • Plays a leadership role in advancing, updating, and refreshing SMC AI data center solutions ahead of the competitions. Works with product managers and project managers to achieve the best time to market (TTM) and the best time to delivery (TTD) goals. Takes ownership in creating and updating technical documents.

3. Key contributor to technical marketing
  • Plays a key role in data center solution related marketing research and provides strategies, insights to top management regarding solution development. Help draft white paper, solution datasheet, web content and training materials. Provides training to FAE and Sales teams. Participates in trade shows, technologies conferences and helps promote SMC data center solutions.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent.
  • 12+ years demonstrated experience as a Solution Architect, Data Center Expert, or IT consultant.
  • Extensive working experience with architecture design and integration of large-scale AI infrastructures.
  • Advanced knowledge of HPC, AI and Cloud related server and storage platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of data center networking from design to deployment, CCNA, CCIE or Nvidia Certifications are desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with latest switch, cable, transceiver and other networking components.
  • Good knowledge of data center power and cooling design and deployment.
  • Good knowledge of software applications, data center management system, cluster middleware, etc.
  • Ability to effectively illustrate concepts in words and diagrams, capable of presenting architectural design and answering customer questions.
  • Demonstrate a track record of design wins and successful deployments in previous postions.
