Network Provisioner information

What does a network provisioner do?

A Network Provisioner is responsible for setting up, configuring, and activating network services for customers or within an organization. Their duties often include coordinating with service providers, ensuring the correct installation of network hardware, and making sure network connections meet technical requirements and security standards. They may also troubleshoot issues during the provisioning process and maintain documentation for all network changes. Network Provisioners play a key role in ensuring reliable and efficient network connectivity.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a network provisioner?

To thrive as a Network Provisioner, you need a strong understanding of networking fundamentals, telecom provisioning processes, and relevant industry standards, often supported by a degree in information technology or related field. Familiarity with provisioning tools, network management systems (NMS), and certifications like Cisco CCNA or CompTIA Network+ are typically expected. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication are valuable soft skills in this role. These skills are crucial for ensuring accurate and efficient setup of network services, minimizing downtime, and maintaining seamless connectivity for clients.

What are some common challenges faced by network provisioners during large-scale deployments?

Network Provisioners often encounter challenges such as coordinating with multiple teams to ensure timely delivery of hardware, managing detailed documentation for each site, and troubleshooting unexpected technical issues that arise during installation. Large-scale projects also require balancing multiple priorities and adapting to changes in project scope or client requirements. Staying organized and communicating clearly with engineering, field technicians, and vendors is essential to keep projects on track and minimize downtime.

Job description

Network & Server Support

Employment Type: Full-time, In-Person, After-hours on-call required

Location: Orrville, OH

Job Category: Information Technology

Jarrett is seeking an experienced and versatile infrastructure professional to serve as the primary point of support for all server and network systems — covering hardware, operating systems, virtualization, storage, and network infrastructure. Our server environment is built on Windows Server with virtualization managed through Microsoft Hyper-V.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical professional with deep knowledge across server and networking disciplines — someone who can move fluidly between troubleshooting a network switch, provisioning a new virtual machine, tuning storage performance, and planning capacity upgrades.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary resource responsible for day-to-day administration, support, and maintenance of all server and network infrastructure.
  • Manage and maintain Windows Server environments, including physical and virtual machines hosted in Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Support all Hyper-V virtualization operations — VM provisioning, live migration, clustering, snapshots, replication, and resource optimization.
  • Administer and optimize enterprise storage arrays, including capacity planning, LUN management, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Design, configure, and maintain network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, and VLANs across LAN/WAN environments.
  • Plan and execute server upgrades, hardware refreshes, OS updates, and patching cycles with minimal disruption to operations.
  • Monitor infrastructure health using appropriate tools and respond proactively to alerts, performance degradation, and capacity thresholds.
  • Develop, maintain, and regularly test backup and disaster recovery procedures for all critical systems and data.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve server, network, and storage incidents; document root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Maintain thorough and up-to-date documentation of infrastructure configurations, network topology, and change history.
  • Evaluate and recommend hardware, software, and infrastructure improvements to support organizational growth and reliability goals.
  • Coordinate with vendors and third-party service providers for hardware procurement, support contracts, and technical escalations.
  • Enforce infrastructure security through patch management, access controls, and adherence to security policies.
  • Provide after-hours support for critical incidents and scheduled maintenance windows as required.

Required Qualifications

Server & Virtualization

  • Advanced Windows Server administration (2016/2019/2022)
  • Expert-level proficiency with Microsoft Hyper-V, including clustering, live migration, and replication
  • Experience with Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC)
  • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy administration
  • Physical server hardware management and troubleshooting (Dell, HPE, or similar)

Storage

  • Hands-on expertise with enterprise storage arrays (SAN/NAS)
  • Experience with iSCSI, Fibre Channel, or SMB/NFS protocols
  • LUN provisioning, RAID configuration, and storage performance analysis
  • Capacity planning and lifecycle management for storage systems
  • Familiarity with major storage vendors (Dell EMC, NetApp, HPE, or similar)

Networking

  • Strong command of TCP/IP, routing protocols, and switching fundamentals
  • Configuration and management of enterprise switches, routers, and firewalls
  • VLAN design, inter-VLAN routing, and network segmentation
  • VPN configuration and remote access solutions
  • Network monitoring, traffic analysis, and troubleshooting (SNMP, Wireshark, etc.)

General

  • 3+ years in a server and network administration or infrastructure support role
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, OS, networking, and storage layers
  • Experience with enterprise backup solutions and disaster recovery planning
  • Willingness and availability to provide after-hours on-call support
  • Clear written and verbal communication; strong documentation habits

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft certifications (MCSA, MCSE, or Azure equivalent)
  • Networking certifications (CompTIA Network+, CCNA, or equivalent)
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting for infrastructure automation
  • Familiarity with System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM)
  • Exposure to Azure Hybrid or Azure Stack HCI environments
  • Experience with ITSM platforms and structured change management processes

Work Environment

This role involves working in and around data center and server room environments. The candidate must be able to lift and rack server and networking equipment as needed. Reliable availability for both scheduled maintenance windows and unscheduled emergency response outside of standard business hours is a firm requirement of this position.
