Purpose of Position
Under general supervision, oversees the installation, maintenance, and support of network communications, including LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, WLAN, VPN, DMZ, and hybrid cloud networking services. Supports enterprise connectivity spanning on-premises environments and AWS, including Transit Gateway, SD-WAN integrations, AWS Cloud WAN, and cloud firewall services.
Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of the situation requires evaluation and judgment. Responsible for evaluating current systems and supporting reliability, performance, and security objectives. Assists in the architecture and planning of network infrastructure using both established and emerging technologies.
Works under general supervision on complex projects and may assist senior peers. Requires thorough knowledge of LAN/WAN systems, enterprise networking technologies, routing and security fundamentals, and working familiarity with cloud networking concepts used in AWS-standardized environments.
Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate change planning and formal change control processes to systems in order to eliminate customer impact, ensure availability SLAs are met, and effectively communicate solutions to coworkers and end users.
  • Configure, implement, and troubleshoot a variety of hardware and software products, including firewalls, routers, switches, wireless LAN controllers/access points, and load balancers, as well as associated cloud networking constructs.
  • Proactively manage the service availability and security posture of network systems to support an average of 99.999% uptime.
  • Perform ongoing review and maintenance of enterprise router and switch infrastructure, including hybrid connectivity paths involving AWS Transit Gateway, SD-WAN, and Cloud WAN.
  • Participate in project planning, implementation, and technical documentation, ensuring network diagrams, standards, and operational runbooks are accurate and up to date.
  • Assist in the management of related data, server, and security systems as dictated by the environment, including coordination with cloud and security teams on firewall policy and segmentation.
  • Provide second and third-level operational support, including participation in 24x7x365 on-call rotation and after-hours troubleshooting as required.
  • Perform advanced monitoring, analysis, and reporting related to network performance, availability, and security.
  • Develop and contribute to tactical and strategic network standards, guidelines, and policies based on growth trends, metrics, and business requirements.
  • Coordinate data network services, technical activities, and maintenance windows with internal teams and external service providers.
  • Support secure network operations, including segmentation, access control, and traffic inspection across on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Assist with automation and Infrastructure-as-Code efforts under guidance, contributing to repeatable and auditable network operations.
  • Adhere to time tracking, metrics tracking, and operational reporting requirements.

  • 2+ years of solid experience with enterprise networking platforms, including Cisco routers and switches, firewalls, WLAN, and load balancers.
  • Strong hands-on routing knowledge across enterprise and WAN technologies, including:
    • BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, DNS, DHCP, NAT
    • VLANs and ACLs
    • IPsec and GRE concepts
  • Hands-on experience supporting WAN and SD-WAN operations, including secure transport, branch-to-hub connectivity, and enterprise edge routing.

  • Good familiarity with Zero Trust / SSE connectivity concepts and secure access principles.
  • Knowledge of electronic data transmission principles, LAN/WAN design, routing fundamentals, business applications, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Knowledge of standard cabling technologies and practices, including UTP (Category 5e/6) and fiber optics (single-mode and multi-mode).
  • Comfortable implementing automation or scripting, with practical experience applying Infrastructure as Code, maintaining version-controlled configurations, and building repeatable operational workflows.
  • Experience with network monitoring and observability tools used for performance analysis, alerting, and troubleshooting (e.g., SolarWinds, packet analysis tools).
  • Experience with change, incident, and problem management workflows, including use of ServiceNow or similar platforms.
  • Experience with network documentation tools such as Visio or Lucid.
  • Experience with IP telephony is a plus, but not required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows Server platforms (2003/2008 or higher).
