Job description


The Network Systems Project Engineer serves as a core member of the Oceaneering Technologies (OTECH) group. Project engineers are expected to learn OTECH processes and best engineering practices; and apply the knowledge towards expanding their engineering skill set. This role will be the Subject Matter Expert to architect and manage networking solutions on standalone air gapped robotic systems consisting of COTS sensors and boards.
OTECH produces and maintains unique underwater systems - typically for US Navy and other US Government Department of Defense customers. Our projects are all one-of-a-kind. Projects range from quick burn to lifecycle management of fielded systems. The ideal candidate for this position is a self-starter who is an effective communicator.
Responsibilities
  • Produce network architecture solutions to meet or exceed system requirements such as latency and redundancy.
  • Responsible for test efforts to validate and verify network requirements.
  • Perform trade studies and down selects for networking equipment from a SWaP-C perspective.
  • Create security hardened configurations that optimize networking equipment.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for networking issues.
  • Lead small, multi-discipline engineering teams to meet schedule needs.
  • Communicate independently and effectively for issue resolution while appropriately interfacing with the team.
  • Creation and maintenance of project CDRL's such as test and configuration documents.
  • Support testing on the factory floor, offsite, and offshore.
  • Prepare reports and present results to stakeholders.
  • Schedules can be demanding throughout the year and occasional work outside normal working hours should be anticipated.

Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
  • BS Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline. Commensurate experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of practical experience in network architecture.
  • Understanding of network device configurations and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of features such as IPSEC, Quality of Services, VLANs and multicast.
  • Experience implementing different network topologies such as star or mesh.
  • Experience in deploying, configuring and security hardening embedded networking equipment.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft 365 environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a United States Government Department of Defense Security Clearance.
  • Must be a US citizen.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience optimizing network configuration to balance video latency versus quality
  • Experience with fiber optic communication systems.
  • Experience with network analysis tools such as Wireshark.
  • Experience evaluating proof of concept network environments utilizing modeling tools such as Cisco Packet Tracer, GNS3 or Keysight Exata.
  • Experience optimizing latency and quality of streaming services, including protocols like LACP, RSTP and MSTP.
  • Familiar with network architectures used in high reliability or fault tolerant networks.
  • Familiar with NIST Risk Management Framework process.
  • Active DoD 8140 approved IAT Level II (or higher) compliant certification. Examples include: CCNA Security, Security+ CE, and CCNP.
  • Experience optimizing configuration of pub/sub protocols, such as DDS, MQTT or gRPC.
  • Solid written and oral communications skills, including ability to effectively document, convey, and present engineering concepts and products to team members and customers.
