Join Mutual of Omaha's Network Engineering team as a Senior Network Engineer. This is a high-impact, senior-level role that shapes the strategic direction of enterprise network infrastructure across our entire organization. You'll be one of the technical leaders on an 11-person team managing 700+ physical network devices across our Home Office campus, remote sites, and a brand new building we are actively building out from the ground up with next generation HPE Aruba technology. If you're an experienced network engineer who thinks like an architect, communicates clearly to business leaders, and is energized by driving innovation and mentoring peers, this is the role for you.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU:

  • Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $150,000, plus annual bonus opportunity.
  • 401(k) plan with a 2% company contribution and 6% company match.
  • Work-life balance with vacation, personal time, and paid holidays. See our benefits and perks page for details.

Applicants for this position must not now, nor at any point in the future, require sponsorship for employment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Serve as a technical leader and strategic advisor assess emerging technologies, evaluate vendor solutions, and recommend the right path forward for our network environment.
  • Help drive network automation initiatives: identify opportunities to reduce manual effort, develop automation practices, and integrate tooling across our Cisco, HPE Aruba, F5, and Infoblox environments.
  • Translate complex technical requirements into clear, business-ready recommendations that leadership can act on including budget justifications, lifecycle plans, and risk assessments.
  • Oversee day-to-day network operations across 700+ devices: switches, routers, load balancers, and related infrastructure at our Home Office, South side campus, and remote sites.
  • Partner with the existing senior team member to co-own strategic direction, tackle major architecture decisions, and ensure the environment evolves with industry best practices.
  • Lead and mentor less senior technicians and help elevate the team's approach from "hands-on execution" to "engineering thinking": structured problem-solving, proactive planning, and documentation.
  • Contribute to major upcoming projects, including data center hardware refresh (end-of-life within ~18 months) and the new building network build out using HPE Aruba.
  • Plan, design, and maintain highly complex network topologies including LAN/WAN, and wireless, infrastructure to meet evolving business objectives.
  • Manage relationships with telecommunications vendors and help drive resolution of complex network issues and service disruptions.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Deep, hands-on experience in enterprise network engineering including routing, switching, load balancing, and network architecture at scale.
  • A strong engineering mindset.
  • Experience with or exposure to network automation like scripting, orchestration, or tooling that reduces manual configuration and improves operational efficiency.
  • Familiarity with major enterprise networking vendors: Cisco and/or HPE Aruba experience is strongly preferred; F5 and Infoblox familiarity is a plus.
  • Proven ability to set strategic and technical direction in a complex enterprise environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A collaborative, initiative driven work style.
  • Ability to work on-site in Omaha, NE.

PREFERRED:

  • Experience developing or leading network automation initiatives (Python, Ansible, REST APIs, or vendor-native automation tools).
  • Familiarity with Infoblox DDI (DNS, DHCP, IP address management).
  • Familiarity with Network Performance Monitoring (NPM tools) including Solarwinds, Gigamon and Allegro.
  • Experience managing network infrastructure in a large, distributed campus environment (1,000+ users, multiple buildings/sites).
  • Ability to challenge existing processes and champion continuous improvement-you get energized by making things better, not just keeping the lights on.
  • Experience contributing to or leading major infrastructure refresh projects, including end-of-life planning and budget development.

We value diverse experience, skills, and passion for innovation. If your experience aligns with the listed requirements, please apply!
