Job description

Network Engineer I Hybrid – 3 days a week on-site, Columbia, MD 6-month contract (potential for hire) Hourly Rate: $53/hr. W2. Benefits available Conversion Salary: $100,000 annually, plus benefits Background Check Required Position Description:

The Network Engineer I is responsible for assisting with the technical design/architecture, configuration, and implementation of core elements that comprise the company’s enterprise data networks. The Network Engineer I serves as a technical consultant within multiple project teams and is responsible for the effective and timely delivery of networking solutions to meet the defined needs of the organization. The Network Engineer I is considered to be the resident technical expert within the network space. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists with the planning, design, and implementation of large enterprise network solutions to support the enterprise
  • Provides support and follows direction of the senior engineering team members
  • Works in conjunction with multiple project team members to refine project-specific requirements and meets project deliverables within the networking space
  • Provides tier-3 level technical support and resources to the network operations team to resolve networking issues with a strong focus on customer service
  • Creates and maintains comprehensive technical design documentation for proposed and implemented solutions
  • Works with Solutions Architects to assist in technical evaluation of potential new technologies and vendor selection
  • Supports the Network Operations Team by facilitating effective service transition, conducts regular training, and processes development
  • Provides routine support to other teams as needed (i.e., firewall rules, traffic examination, routing changes, etc.)
  • Assists in remediating MI’s (major incidents) during the course of network-related service outages
  • Collaborates with the Network operations team to deploy/maintain the SDWAN infrastructure - HPE (SilverPeak), Cisco Meraki, Zscaler, and Cisco ISE
  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or other engineering related field and 1+ years of directly related network engineering experience, Or, At least 3 years of experience managing and supporting large- enterprise infrastructure/network environments - designing, planning, documenting and implementing LANs and WANs
  • CCNA, CCNP, CCIE or CWNA preferred
  • Current knowledge of network security technologies – including, but not limited to: Palo Alto Firewalls, Cisco Firepower, Cisco ISE
  • Current knowledge of S2S VPN configuration and maintenance support
  • Hands-on experience with network hardware, specifically Cisco routers and switches (4500/Nexus 9K - 2800/2900/4300)
  • Advanced knowledge of Dynamic Routing Protocols: OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise-level WAN and Internet circuits configuration and maintenance support, along with inter-data center connectivity
  • Experience with Cisco Application Centric Architecture (ACI) preferred
  • Conceptual understanding of Zscaler cloud-based content filtering platform and advanced firewall
  • Experience using packet capture software such as Wireshark and other sniffer tools; ability to perform comprehensive network performance analysis
  • Familiarity with SD-WAN infrastructure; preferred experience with Aruba/Silver Peak SD-WAN solution
  • Advanced understanding of TCP/IP network protocols, including common application protocols
  • Experience with Cisco Meraki wireless and switch configuration and management
  • Strong experience with core data center and campus environment networking technologies
  • Preferred experience with SolarWinds
  • Able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
  • Flexibility with availability to work outside of normal business hours to complete planned change tasks, troubleshooting, or emergency work as required
  • Positive, self-motivated individual who can complete tasks independently
  • Strong vendor management skills and ability to hold them accountable for SLAs
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in the English language is required
