Major Duties
Under the general supervision of the Senior Director of Infrastructure Services, the Network Engineering Lead serves as a key technical resource for network infrastructure operations, project delivery, network performance, security initiatives, architecture standards, resiliency planning, vendor engagement, and CSU systemwide collaboration while supporting a highly available, secure, and scalable campus network environment.
  • Serves as the primary coordination and escalation point for network infrastructure operations.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for Network Engineering staff, projects, reports, metrics and team performance.
  • Provide technical leadership for the Network Engineering and telecom teams in monitoring, analysis, and continuous improvement of the campus data network supporting tens of thousands of ports across a distributed campus environment. Oversee network telemetry, performance monitoring, alerting, and operational analytics to ensure high availability and service reliability.
  • Under the direction of management, is responsible for the campus network security posture in collaboration with the Information Security Officer (ISO) and security team.
  • Leads the development and operationalization of network-related resiliency strategies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and five years of relevant experience.
  • Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience working in an enterprise-scale data network (e.g., corporation or university), including management of the Network Engineering staff, and Experience managing a hybrid-cloud network infrastructure is highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of enterprise network infrastructure technologies, including switches, routers, firewalls, and load balancers, as well as network operations, maintenance practices, and change management methodologies. Demonstrated understanding of infrastructure deployment standards, operational procedures, service continuity requirements, and the coordination of planned and unplanned network activities within a complex technology environment.
  • Advanced skill in coordinating infrastructure projects and maintenance activities, prioritizing operational workloads, and resolving complex network issues. Ability to serve as a technical escalation resource, provide hands-on troubleshooting support, facilitate cross-functional communication, and ensure network infrastructure activities are completed in accordance with established standards, timelines, and service expectations.
  • Thorough knowledge of IT Service Management (ITSM) principles, asset management practices, incident and problem management processes, and project management methodologies. Understanding of service level objectives, operational performance metrics, reporting techniques, and governance frameworks used to support enterprise network services, resource planning, and continuous operational improvement.
  • Demonstrated skill in providing technical guidance, mentoring staff, coordinating team activities, and fostering a collaborative, high-performing work environment. Ability to assess technical competencies, identify professional development opportunities, promote knowledge sharing and documentation practices, analyze operational processes, and recommend improvements that enhance service quality, efficiency, and organizational effectiveness.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver, and more.
  • Classification: 0464 / Network Communications Analyst IV / 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE is $8231 - $11755 per month, dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $8231 - $11990 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday. May include evenings and weekends.
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
  • The position is currently hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
