Position Title: SR. NETWORK ENGINEER
Location: HOUSTON
FLSA Class: NON-EXEMPT
Responsible to: SR. MANAGER NETWORK & COMMUNICATIONS

Position Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Sr. Network Engineer to join our team in Houston, TX. This role is integral to designing, implementing, and optimizing our network infrastructure to support organizational growth and ensure reliable connectivity. The ideal candidate will bring advanced expertise in routing, network architecture, and hands-on experience with routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.

This position requires a proactive individual with strong analytical skills, deep technical knowledge, and the ability to work cross-functionally to support business continuity and innovation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Network Architecture & Engineering

  • Design, deploy, and support advanced network solutions using Fortinet security and networking platforms (FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, FortiAP, FortiSwitch, etc.).
  • Architect secure, resilient, and scalable network infrastructures across VoltaGrid environments.
  • Configure and manage firewalls, SD-WAN, IPS/IDS, VPN solutions, and segmentation strategies.
  • Implement and optimize routing and switching (OSPF, BGP, static routing, VLANs, Layer 2/3 architectures).

Advanced Support & Escalations

  • Serve as Tier 3 escalation point for complex network issues across customer environments.
  • Troubleshoot end-to-end connectivity, performance, security, and routing problems.
  • Perform packet captures, flow analysis, and deep-dive diagnostics across multi-vendor platforms.

Security & Compliance

  • Ensure networks follow security best practices, including segmentation, hardening, and secure remote access.
  • Configure and maintain security profiles (web filtering, application control, AV, IPS/IDS, SSL inspection).
  • Assist with compliance initiatives as they relate to secure networking design.

Communication

  • Present architecture recommendations, roadmaps, and project deliverables in a clear and professional manner.
  • Provide written documentation, network diagrams, post-migration reports, and runbooks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements/Certifications:

  • Minimum of (5) five years’ experience in network engineer roles.
  • Fortinet NSE certifications (NSE 4, NSE 5, NSE 6, or NSE 7).
  • Cisco certifications (CCNP Security, CCNP Enterprise, etc.).
  • Deep expertise in Fortinet platforms (FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer).
  • Strong proficiency in networking: routing, switching, VLANs, VPN, SD-WAN, wireless, and network security.
  • Experience with Cisco firewalls, routers, switches, and wireless solutions.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with network troubleshooting, performance tuning, and packet-level analysis.
  • Ability to travel 20-30% Annually.
  • Ability to support emergency network outages evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to organize, schedule, and prioritize departmental and individual work to meet various schedules and objectives.
  • Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes, with the ability to identify and resolve sophisticated issues/problems
