About the Internship
The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey's Office of Inspector General (OIG) works to keep the agency corruption-free. The mission of the OIG is to enhance and defend the integrity of the Port Authority's programs and operations. To accomplish this mission, the OIG detects, receives, and investigates allegations of fraud, corruption, waste, and abuse with respect to employees, or other individuals or organizations doing business with the Port Authority, who attempt to corrupt or unlawfully interfere with Port Authority operations. The administrative intern will provide clerical and operational support, assisting with scheduling, data entry, document preparation and office communication. This position allows interns to learn office software, improve organizational skills and support department projects. Some of the key duties include managing correspondence, filing and assisting with special projects. This position is highly confidential and involves the handling of sensitive documentation. The selected candidate is expected to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as point of contact for incoming calls to the Office of Investigations, including but not limited to the Complaint Hotline
  • Serve as receptionist for the Office of Inspector General
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of electronic and physical office files
  • Prepare and distribute correspondence, forms, and expense documents
  • Provide additional administrative support as assigned by the Business Manage to include, but not limited to, copying, scanning, filing, and emailing confidential documents.
  • Perform various clerical and administrative responsibilities
  • Maintain office and other equipment
  • Order and maintain office supplies

Minimum Qualifications
  • Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
  • Major or minor in Investigations/Audit related fields, Criminal Justice, Public Administration or Business Administration

Desired Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to use discretion, maintain confidentiality, and good judgement
  • As the voice of the department, you will act as the point of contact handling complex inquiries with a calm and positive attitude.
  • Applicants should also be detail-oriented and organized with the ability to complete projects within specified timeframes under minimal supervision.

Internship Details
  • The start date is expected to be in June 2026
  • This internship will require 36.25 weekly hours
  • Candidate must be available to work during core hours of 8:00 to 4:00 pm.
  • In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.
