Job description

At Dover Fueling Solutions (DFS), a Dover company we are taking fueling and convenience retail to the next level. We are passionate about cultivating excellence in everything we do, but what really fuels us is our people. They're the heart of our company. As an employee, our promise to you is that you'll work on new and innovative products and solutions, be mentored by managers and teammates who are collaborative, caring, and act with integrity, and have the opportunity to grow in ways that are meaningful to you. Unique and interesting projects - both locally and globally - will challenge you and allow you to pursue different and rewarding career paths.

Headquartered in Austin, TX, DFS has a significant technology development and manufacturing presence worldwide, including facilities in Brazil, China, India, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Overall Scope:

The Senior Engineer, Hardware Quality Automation is responsible for developing and implementing automated test solutions for hardware and integrated systems. This role focuses on improving validation efficiency, test coverage and repeatability across hardware platforms that include mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, electronic, electromechanical, firmware, and software interfaces.
This engineer will work in close partnership with the Systems Test Engineer to support system-level validation strategies and execution in the hardware domain to support robust product validation and will drive the adoption of automation frameworks. The role will also collaborate with the Software QA lead to align automation approaches for end-to-end functional, regression, and interface testing where hardware and software interact.
The ideal candidate combines hands-on experience in hardware test automation with strong systems thinking, practical troubleshooting ability to build scalable test frameworks, benches, and tools that support new product introduction and sustaining engineering efforts.
Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and maintain automated test solutions for hardware components, subsystems, and integrated products.
Partner with the Systems Test Engineer to support system-level test automation strategy, execution, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with the Software QA Lead to align hardware and software test automation for integrated workflows, regression coverage, and application/interface validation.
Build and improve test frameworks, scripts, fixtures, benches, and hardware-in-the-loop environments as appropriate.
Ensure automated test solutions align with product requirements, validation plans, and system integration needs.
Identify test coverage gaps and implement practical test automation improvements that reduce risk and increase validation completeness.
Support debugging and root cause analysis for failures involving hardware, firmware, and software interactions.
Contribute to the design and setup of test environments, test setups, including configurable test racks, instrumentation, and supporting infrastructure.
Define and track relevant automation and validation metrics such as coverage, execution efficiency, and defect detection effectiveness.
Document test methods and infrastructure and report results with a high degree of technical rigor.
Provide technical guidance to engineers and technicians using automation tools and test infrastructure.
Incorporate lessons learned from field issues, product support feedback, and validation results into future test improvements.
Support compliance with applicable safety, regulatory, and certification requirements during validation activities.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Systems, or Computer Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
7+ years of experience in hardware testing, system validation, test automation, or closely related engineering environments.
Experience developing automated test scripts and frameworks using tools such as Python, C/C++, LabVIEW or TestStand.
Demonstrated experience with hardware and system-level test automation.
Strong understanding of integrated systems spanning hardware, electronics, firmware, and software.
Knowledge of verification and validation methods, defect tracking, and test documentation practices.
Experience working with common communication protocols and interfaces such as SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, or USB.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and simulation environments.
Experience with electromechanical systems, industrial equipment, or similar products.
Familiarity with regulatory and certification requirements such as EMC, UL, safety, or PCI.
Experience translating field or customer issues into improved validation coverage.
Familiarity with new product introduction and engineering lifecycle processes such as stage-gate, DFMEA, and design reviews.
Success Profile:

A successful candidate in this role will:

Bring hands-on technical depth in hardware test automation rather than only high-level strategy ownership.
Work effectively in a partnership model with system test and QA leaders.
Improve the speed, repeatability, and quality of component and system validation.
Help create practical, maintainable automation infrastructure that scales across programs.
