Sr. Systems Engineer (Storage & Backup)

Location: San Jose, CA — 4 Days Onsite / 1 Day WFH
Duration: 6–12 Months+ Contract 

Job Overview

We are seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer – Storage & Backup with strong hands-on experience supporting enterprise storage and backup environments in production. The ideal candidate will have experience with large-scale SAN/storage systems, NetApp, EMC, HPE, IBM, Cisco, Rubrik, Brocade, and production support operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, manage, and maintain enterprise storage solutions.
  • Lead and participate in the installation and configuration of storage and backup systems.
  • Provision and decommission storage following documented procedures.
  • Manage and troubleshoot NFS exports and CIFS shares.
  • Provide production support and resolve storage/backup-related incidents.
  • Troubleshoot issues across development, test, and production environments.
  • Monitor systems and resources within the storage and backup domain.
  • Perform system resource optimization and capacity management activities.
  • Support system management, security compliance, access control, and configuration management.
  • Understand application/database architecture and integration with storage systems.
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive operational tasks.
  • Research and recommend automation, monitoring, and storage management tools.
  • Develop and maintain storage procedures, operational documentation, and Knowledge Base articles.
  • Document platform design, operations, troubleshooting procedures, and best practices.
  • Automate repeatable tasks using scripting and Ansible.
  • Research and evaluate new storage technologies and processes.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation.
Must-Have Requirements
  • Currently working in a production environment with hands-on operational responsibilities.
  • Strong production support experience in Storage & Backup Administration.
  • Solid understanding of large-scale Storage Area Networks (SAN) and enterprise storage systems.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of the following technologies:
    • NetApp / NetApp Grid
    • EMC
    • HPE
    • IBM
    • Cisco
    • Rubrik
    • Brocade
  • Strong knowledge of operating systems and virtualization environments such as:
    • AIX
    • Linux
    • Windows
    • VMware
  • Experience troubleshooting storage-related production incidents.
  • Bachelor''s or Master''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Nice-to-Have
  • SAN / Storage Administration certification.
  • Experience with automation using Ansible and scripting.
  • Experience with monitoring and storage management tools.
  • Strong documentation and Knowledge Base development experience.
