Job Summary
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Traction Power Engineer for our Minneapolis, MN Office. Be involved in projects with our Transit and Rail Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.
Your Impact
  • Technical competence in all elements of transit traction power engineering.
  • Ability to prepare and guide drafters/designers and less experienced engineers to prepare One-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, emergency trip, grounding and lighting, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling, test plans, field tests, reports, analysis, and technical studies for traction power systems.
  • Ability to perform grounding design, load flow, harmonic, power flow, voltage drop, protective relay settings and coordination and arc flash studies using specialized software. • Ability to develop systemwide ductbank drawings by working in close coordination with respective system disciplines.
  • Assist and provide working information to CAD for BIM clash detection. • Produce conceptual design, prelim design, final design, Issued for Construction drawing and document packages. • Develop test procedures and reports in support of design verification and validation during the project life cycle.
  • Support and participate in the Systems implementation phase of projects, such as installation, Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, Record Drawings and final reports. • Support procurement efforts by authoring technical requirements and specifications, performing vendor bid evaluations and supporting vendor selection.
  • Ability to perform site investigations and walk-downs in medium voltage (MV) substations and along electrified railroad
  • Experience in MV substation test requirements and acceptance criteria per IEEE and National Electrical Testing Agency (NETA) standards
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 5 to 7+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering and prior transit and rail experience.
  • Ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with clients, supervisors, office staff, and inspectors regarding project status and issues, drawings, specifications and qualification test results;
  • Detail-oriented, with capability to detect non-conformities and complete detailed reports within a timely manner;
  • Prior internship experience, leadership experience, or relevant coursework
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Bluebeam Software
  • Strong technical writing, analytical and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products
  • The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer license (multi-state preferred).
  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project or Primavera scheduling

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $90,000- $150,000
