Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, Member Growth, Retention, this engineer will join a highly experimental growth pod focused on improving member retention. In this role, you will work across the full technical stack to design, build, and iterate on experiments that drive engagement, contributing to both frontend clients and backend systems. You'll play a key role in rapidly delivering and scaling features that shape how members interact with and stay connected to care.
Please note that this is a hybrid role based in San Francisco, with an expectation to be in the office 2-3 days per week at our 44 Montgomery Street location. Candidates must be based in the San Francisco metro area or able to relocate independently within 90 days of their start date. Occasional travel will be required for team on-sites.
What you'll do:
  • Design and build scalable full-stack services using Ruby on Rails, React, GraphQL
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ship high-impact features that improve our member growth
  • Expand and maintain existing web and mobile applications
  • Debug and resolve issues quickly and efficiently
  • Provide technical leadership in architectural discussions, code reviews, and system planning
  • Advocate for high engineering standards, including test coverage, documentation, and observability
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support system reliability and respond to production issues
  • Collaborate flexibly across time zones, as needed, to support distributed teams and stakeholders
  • Lead initiatives to define and implement scalable system designs
  • Own technical delivery for complex projects or subsystems
  • Break down ambiguous or complex requirements into manageable, shippable units
  • Drive technical and architectural discussions within the team

What success looks like:
  • Deliver projects on time, within scope, and with high stakeholder satisfaction
  • Maintain high system uptime and low defect rates through strong testing and observability practices
  • Partner effectively with product, design, data, or other teams, contributing meaningfully to team goals and alignment
  • Complete tasks independently, resolve issues proactively, and accurately track personal work
  • Contribute to improved team velocity through planning, estimation, and delivery best practices
  • Continuously seek out new technologies or practices to improve engineering outcomes

What you'll bring:
  • 3-5 years of experience in software development with a focus on full-stack development
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Ruby on Rails, Typescript, React
  • Proven ability to independently lead the delivery of complex technical projects
  • Experience working in cross-functional Agile teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Experience designing scalable, maintainable system architecture
  • Familiarity with observability and experimentation tools such as Datadog, LaunchDarkly, Sentry, Mixpanel, and Iterable
  • Experience designing and maintaining GraphQL APIs
  • Experience in mentoring and providing technical guidance to other engineers

The target base salary range for this position is $138,000 - $161,000, and is part of a competitive total rewards package including stock options and benefits. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. We review all employee pay and compensation programs annually using Radford Global Compensation Databaseat minimum to ensure competitive and fair pay.
