Job description

Position Overview 

We are seeking a Quality Engineer to provide quality assurance support to the product development team, resolving bugs, defects, and other potential issues and ensuring that specifications are met. 

This position is the night shift which is Monday through Thursday 6 pm to 4 am (4x10s) with a 10% shift pay premium.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Prepare, maintain, and review quality assurance procedures to assure compliance with customer and or government requirements 
  • Develop sampling plans, quality standards, and process control instructions for use by manufacturing in monitoring and reducing variation 
  • Support the implementation of Product Assurance Plans (PAPs) and implement program strategies, policies, and procedures necessary to ensure compliance with internal practices and requirements 
  • Analyze data of production runs to ensure parts produced meet customer requirements 
  • Develop and initiate standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation 
  • Drive manufacturing efficiency improvements by evaluating plant-wide processes and applying process control methods or process changes as necessary 
  • Perform quality reviews and drive disposition of nonconforming material and generate corresponding reports 
  • Process, investigate, and disposition RMAs 
  • Monitor production cycles and perform tests and evaluations to identify potential malfunctions and reliability issues as early as possible 
  • Assist in quality inspection and control for satellite system and subsystem integration and testing activities including flight hardware and software integration and testing, ground support equipment, calibrations, tooling, and safety 
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with program offices, other AST organizations, vendors, and contractors 
  • Review practices, procedures, and processes to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and reduce risk to product and program quality 
  • Provide support to the quality engineering department 
  • Ensure assigned parts meet company quality requirements 
  • Review design plans, process procedures, test procedures, and quality manuals to understand requirements and functional intent 
  • Work with senior engineers to perform inspection analyses, failure analyses, and testing 
  • Review corrective actions implemented in the production process 
  • Identify root causes of production problems and recommend or implement corrective measures 
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Qualifications 

Education 

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline required 

Experience 

  • Minimum of three years of related experience required 
  • Five or more years of quality system experience in an aerospace, aviation, or military manufacturing environment 
  • Experience reading engineering blueprints and drawings 
  • Ability to work in environments with evolving requirements and dynamic schedules 
  • Spacecraft experience in a clean room setting 
  • Experience leading RCCAs 
  • Ability to develop performance metrics and take appropriate action 
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing and production standards in the aerospace industry 
  • Solid understanding of QMS principles and processes for complex electronics used in space applications 
  • Familiarity with piece-part, assembly-level, and system-level inspection and verification practices 
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident required 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Ability to learn production sequences and company quality standards 
  • Experience in Design Readiness Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, and 
  • Manufacturing Readiness Reviews 
  • Knowledge of Quality Systems and Processes 
  • Experience with Preliminary Review (PR) and Material Review Board (MRB); current QMRB certification is a plus 
  • Lean or Six Sigma quality engineering and root cause corrective action certifications 
  • Experience with program and project management tools 
  • ASQE certification 
  • Understanding of export control and ITAR requirements
