The Wooten Company's Raleigh, NC office is seeking a Utility Coordinator who will work within the Engineering Services Team. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone with CAD design, civil engineering, or field experience who is looking to grow their career in project coordination and utility management. Working alongside experienced engineers and utility professionals, you'll learn how to coordinate utility relocations, build relationships with utility owners, and play an important role in delivering transportation and infrastructure projects across North Carolina.
Who are you?
You enjoy working with people just as much as solving problems. You're organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Whether you're reviewing plans, coordinating with utility companies, or communicating project updates, you know how to keep projects moving forward. You have experience working with engineering plans or CAD software and are excited to continue learning. You're comfortable asking questions, learning new processes, and explaining technical information in a way that others can understand. You're equally comfortable having difficult conversations when necessary while maintaining professionalism and building positive working relationships. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are looking for a long-term career where you can continue developing your technical knowledge and project management skills.
What will you be doing?
The Utility Coordinator works closely with engineers, utility companies, contractors, and NCDOT to coordinate utility relocation efforts for transportation projects. In this role, you'll review engineering plans, identify potential utility conflicts, communicate project updates, coordinate schedules, and help move projects through each stage of the utility coordination process. You'll gain experience reviewing relocation packages, preparing project documentation, attending meetings with utility owners, and learning NCDOT policies and procedures while working alongside experienced team members.
Where will you be working?
This position is preferably based in our Raleigh headquarters, located in the highly desirable Glenwood South district of downtown Raleigh. However, we are willing to consider candidates who would like to work out of one of our five other regional office locations including Winston-Salem, Hickory Greenville, and Wilmington, NC or Columbia, SC.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Coordinate utility relocation efforts for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Review engineering plans to identify utility conflicts.
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing utility relocation packages for NCDOT.
  • Coordinate project schedules and communicate with utility companies regarding project milestones.
  • Attend meetings with utility owners, project teams, and clients.
  • Provide timely project updates to owners and stakeholders.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and records.
  • Work closely with engineers to support successful project delivery.
  • Learn and apply NCDOT policies and utility coordination procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Survey, or a related field OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience using AutoCAD, Civil3D, or similar CAD Software (preferred)
  • Valid Driver's license and the ability to make site visits and work in the field as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of MicroStation and / or AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus but not required.
  • Knowledge of utility construction plans, utility-by-others plans and utility special provisions.
  • Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Good communication skills, especially with external stakeholders of a diverse technical background and education.
  • Familiarity with NCDOT roadway plans.
  • Familiarity and understanding of NCDOT Policy and Procedures.
  • Relocation experience on NCDOT projects preferred.
  • Knowledge of NC General Statutes and the Federal Highway Administration is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft O364 applications, especially Excel and Word.
Job Type: Full-time, hourly non-exempt
