Job description

NCCCO Certified Crane Operator

The NCCCO Certified Crane Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of mobile, crawler, rough terrain, or hydraulic cranes in support of construction, industrial, shipyard, and maintenance projects. This position requires a current NCCCO certification, strong knowledge of load charts, rigging practices, and safety regulations, and the ability to perform precision lifts in a variety of working environments. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, dependable, and experienced in coordinating lifting operations with riggers, signal persons, and supervisors.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate cranes safely and efficiently to lift, move, position, and place materials, equipment, and structural components.
  • Interpret load charts and calculate crane capacities to ensure safe lifting operations.
  • Conduct pre-operational inspections and routine maintenance checks on cranes and related equipment.
  • Coordinate with riggers and signal persons to execute lifting operations safely and accurately.
  • Monitor crane stability, load weight, weather conditions, and site hazards throughout operations.
  • Perform critical lifts in accordance with company policies and applicable safety standards.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations, NCCCO requirements, and company safety procedures.
  • Complete daily equipment inspections, operational logs, and required documentation.
  • Assist with crane setup, breakdown, and transportation when required.
  • Follow lift plans and project specifications to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Maintain clear communication with ground personnel and project supervisors during all lifting operations.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping and safe work practices in construction, industrial, and shipyard environments.


Qualifications:

  • Current NCCCO Crane Operator Certification.
  • Valid Driver's License; CDL preferred.
  • Experience operating mobile, crawler, rough terrain, or hydraulic cranes.
  • Strong understanding of load charts, rigging principles, hand signals, and crane safety practices.
  • Ability to read lift plans, work orders, and project specifications.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry safety standards.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
  • Strong communication skills and commitment to safe operations.


Preferred Experience:

  • Shipyard, marine construction, heavy industrial, refinery, or commercial construction experience.
  • Experience performing heavy lifts involving structural steel, vessel components, machinery, and large equipment.
  • Familiarity with barge-mounted cranes and waterfront lifting operations.
