Job description

Metropolitan Police Officers employed by Events DC to serve at its venues (i.e., Entertainment and Sports Arena, Walter E. Washington Convention Center, RFK Stadium, DC Armory, Carnegie Library at Mount Vernon Square, and St. Elizabeth Hospital Campus) report to the chain of command of the Security Director or Security Manager. They primarily support Security Operations personnel (Security Services and/or Transportation Services) and deter criminal activity at Events DC venues. This role applies to day-to-day exterior and interior venue operations. All Metropolitan Police Officers anticipate, prevent, and act to protect employees and customers against disorder, unsafe conditions, and/or criminal activity on venue property. 

  • Active status in good standing as a member of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD)
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in a lead role, using independent good judgment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with all staff, show managers, in-house and external contractors.
  • Assists in management of the taxi lane, to include enforcement of unauthorized parking
  • In an emergency, may be required to take the appropriate public safety actions
  • Communicates with Security Operations (Security and Transportation Services) personnel on local police and fire department incidents that may impact the venue
  • May be required to use enforcement tools for traffic-related non-compliance including, but not limited to, illegal parking, bus idling, illegal parking, and jaywalking
  • May accompany dock leadership on inspections of loading docks to ensure compliance with venue policies and District of Columbia ordinances, to include "no smoking" and the proper storage of propane.
  • Assists in the inspection of permits, directing persons and vehicle operators to authorized locations.
  • May assist, as necessary, to mitigate issues involving disruptive or unruly guests, to include removal of persons from a venue.
  • Assesses and implements laws, regulations, and venue-specific guidelines regarding the possession of firearms by certain individuals.
  • Anticipates, prevents, and takes appropriate action to protect against criminal activity on venue loading docks.
  • Assists in the development of the security plan to maintain order and respond in the event of emergencies.
  • Participates, if needed, as part of the court and bench perimeter security team as prescribed by the venue and/or NBA league security requirements.
  • Participates, as required, as the MPD representative at all NBA game referee security briefings or other event security briefings.
  • May assist in securing areas occupied by talent, performers, VIP guests, etc. as required by the Director or Manager of Security.
  • Assists in the development and execution of any security related plans and responses, as appropriate.
  • Assists in the confiscation or recovery of contraband, as appropriate, during patron screening or other interactions. Disposes of contraband consistent with departmental requirements.
  • Liaises between the venue security operators and MPD as necessary or warranted, applying his/her expertise and knowledge of police procedures to the circumstances to achieve the desired outcome.
  • Assists in the implementation of internal controls to guard against theft, waste, and abuse of Events DC property.
  • Complies with law enforcement agency guidelines governing secondary employment.
