Job description

Ignite Digital is seeking a skilled and motivated Engineer/Scientist I to support a US Navy software maintenance support initiative in the Norfolk, VA area. This role supports engineering, software development, testing, and system support tasks that enable missioncritical Navy and joint operational capabilities. The ideal candidate brings strong technical foundations, disciplined engineering practices, and a commitment to developing innovative solutions for complex defense requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support software development, maintenance, and engineering tasks across project efforts
  • Assist with systems and equipment support, troubleshooting, and sustainment
  • Contribute to test and evaluation activities, reporting, and documentation
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to develop, refine, and validate technical solutions
  • Apply engineering principles to support modeling, analysis, system assessments, and technical workflow improvement
  • Collaborate with government and contractor personnel to meet project objectives and timelines

Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in one of the following fields:
    Engineering, Physics, Network Security, Information Systems, or Computer Science

Certification Requirement (Software Engineer or ComputerRelated Degrees):
Candidates with software or computerfocused degrees must be actively working toward one of the following within 18 months of assuming duties:

  • Professional Software Engineering Master (PSEM)
  • Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP)
    OR (with COR approval) a vendor/platformspecific certification such as:
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD)
  • Microsoft Certified Applications Developer (MCAD)
  • Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA)
  • Sun Certified Professional (SCP)
  • Red Hat Certification Program (RHCP)
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
  • Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP)
  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)
  • Certified SAFe/Agile Software Engineer
  • Certified SAFe DevOps Practitioner
  • Certified SAFe Architect
  • AWS Foundational, Associate, or Professional certifications

Experience:

  • One (1) year of experience in software development and maintenance including:
    • Systems/equipment support
    • Test and evaluation support
  • Experience with DoW C4ISR, maintenance, logistics, or business systems is strongly preferred, though relevant industry experience supporting complex solutions may be considered with COR approval.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET Security Clearance 
  • Strong analytical thinking, communication skills, and collaborative mindset
  • Ability to support complex engineering and software development tasks in a dynamic environment

Salary: $70k+ to align with education & experience
