Job Summary: Mold Maintenance and Tooling- Waxes, cleans, inspects, and maintains molds. Sand molds, apply Gelcoat in between pulls, and does any patching and repair work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for receiving and prepping the molds for gelcoat. Requires buffing and waxing.
  • Responsible for making sure a mold is ready to move on to production.
  • Follow instructions of the Manager/Supervisor/lead
  • Be able to use small hand tools, including grinders, sanders, screwdrivers, drills, scissors, razor knife, etc.
  • Will help in the construction of new molds for the production line.
  • Keep the work area clean and orderly.
  • Inspects all parts so that they are complete and up to quality standards. 
  • Any other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

Tools used in this occupation include but are not limited to:

  • Personal Protective Equipment- Safety Glasses may need a half-mask, dust/mist respirator, and Tyvek protection suit.
  • Hand Tools- Rollers, sanders, buffers, screwdrivers, drills, razor knife, and scissors.
  • Working directly with fiberglass, resin, and gel coat.


Knowledge, Education, and Experience include but is not limited to the following:

  • Working concept of prototypes.
  • Must be familiar with gelcoat spraying, the amination process, and Bondo applications.
  • Must be able to use a fiberglass chop gun.
  • Be able to drive a forklift.
  • Knowledge of production processes and quality control.


Physical and Work Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air      temperature
  • Must be able to bend at the waist and knees and stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to climb into and out of the interior of boats.
  • Must be able to wear proper safety equipment, including a respirator when necessary.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds when necessary.
  • The ability to see details at close range.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator.
  • Be able to use and maintain small hand tools (grinder, scraper, razor knife, blower, etc.).
  • This is a safety-sensitive position.
