What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking an experienced self-starter integrated-circuit test engineer to support cutting-edge research in advanced microelectronics for radiation effects testing for national-security missions. Every day, you will have exciting opportunities to partner with a renowned, dynamic, and productive team leading national research projects. We are especially looking for skills in firmware programming FPGAs for custom test automation.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Develop, plan, and executive novel microelectronics experiments for assuring the radiation hardness of advanced microelectronic integrated circuits.
  • Coordinate, plan, and automate transistor and integrated circuit tests to characterize the physics of radiation effects in advanced microelectronics.
  • Analyze and summarize digital and analog measurements of CMOS transistors and complex integrated circuits, including SRAMs, FPGAs, and microprocessors.
  • Report and present project plans and accomplishments to management and sponsors.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$117,500 - $235,700

  • Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience in the field of integrated circuits.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire

The ideal R&D S&E Electronics Engineer candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:

  • Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
  • Demonstrated experience with analog and digital circuit design and analysis.
  • Hands-on experience testing and de-bugging circuitry, with clear mastery of tools such as oscilloscopes, logic/network/spectrum analyzers, function/pulse generators, etc.
  • Proven experience with design and analysis tools (e.g., Matlab, LabVIEW and Python), analog simulation codes (e.g., LTSpice), and HDL simulation codes (e.g.,ModelSim).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:

  • Knowledge of CMOS transistor operation principles, integrated circuit designs and circuit operation principles, hardware-level FPGA programming, and electrical testing methods and equipment for transistors and ICs.
About Our Team

The Advanced Microsystems Radiation Effects team (org. 5251) develops, integrates, characterizes, and assures the radiation hardness and reliability of advanced microelectronics for national security applications. We are actively investigating leading edge technologies from commercial manufacturers with a rapidly growing portfolio of projects in partnerships with defense and government agencies.

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
